Fun fact about covid-19 reporting.

My state government sites and the local newspaper say there are no cases in UT. If you look closely they say there have been 17 tests of which 15 are negative. The other two they don't know.

The New York Times says there is at least 1 case in UT in a hospital. Their map points close to Salt Lake City.

Here's what we're up against in this state and probably other red states. We can't trust our red state governments or local news sources.

I suggest we all keep an eye on our own situations through sources and states that are not controlled by GOP filters.

What a bullshit administration we have, selfserving control mongers.

My title was sarcastic.

There are cases there right now.

For the first time since he took office, I hope Trump is right and that the mortality rate will be much lower than 1%. Please be right.

We all have loved ones who are elderly. I don't want to lose them.

Does it matter if it is the elderly not in a nursing or the ones in a nursing home?

Was the 50 year old woman who was the first to die in Washington state in a nursing home?

Florida health officials are mobilizing to address coronavirus. Though state officials say the threat to the public remains low, public interest in learning about the disease — how it works and who is most at risk — is high.

Here are the answers to some common questions. Got more? Email rellenbogen@tampabay.com, message the Tampa Bay Times on Facebook or reply to us on Twitter.

Just testing positive for the virus is not quite the same as actively suffering from COVID-19 respiratory diesease.

It's kind of like HIV/AIDS. You can have the virus without having full blown Acquired Immuno Disease Syndrome.

Versions of hepatitus can work the same way. Just because you have the virus doesn't mean you're exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Now, you're not wrong, the gov't can and does use this to skew reporting.

Coronavirus is the base virus group
SARS-CoV-2 is the virus we are concerned about
COVID-19 is the sickness the virus causes
Wuhan Pnumonia is the pnumonia associsted with COVID-19

The premise of the argument is "the number of covid-19 cases in UT".

NYT - at least one case
All local and state sources - there are no known cases.

That's how the info is skewed. You find when the premise is exactly the same the data conflicts. They can mix premises by adding whether is was contracted here or whatever but the argument would be false. They still want to say there are no cases. That is incorrect.

It's just good practice during this GOP controlled message period to get info from non GOP filtered sources and they are out there. That's all I'm saying.

You can spread SARS-coV2 and not have covid-19 yet if you've had contact with the virus. You can also have covid-19 and not know it for between 0-27 days; the average is around 14 days. It's one slippery monster.

People can have the virus and spread it (apparently pretty easily) before they are symptomatic. It's not the only disease to be that way, but it is problematic when is is epidemic.
