Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.) has implied that 80 recent Supreme Court decisions are illegitimate due to the partisan nature of the decisions and the influence of Republican donors on the courts composition.
As the architect of an 80-case barrage of partisan, 5-4 decisions for big Republican donor interests, Chief Justice Roberts has zero credibility playing umpire in any political squabble, Whitehouse wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. The senator has since continued to post on the supposed 80 partisan decisions.
[Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnells effort to pack the Court is echoed by his effort to reassure the Republican justices of continued Republican political support. In a word: Keep churning out the decisions for our big donors, boys; weve got your back,' Whitehouse wrote on Thursday.
Whitehouse appeared to be responding to the controversy over Senator Chuck Schumers (D., N.Y.) remarks outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Schumer was speaking to a group of abortion rights activists as the court debated a case that could restrict access to abortions in the state of Louisiana.

(6,165 posts)... election by-election.
When they didn't win at the voting booths they just ignored any Democratic wins and stayed focused on their long-range plan to steal power. Moscowmitch runs the program in the Senate by out and out moves to ignore President Obama including denying him a SCOTUS seat and refusing to advance any legislation favored by democrats.
And here we are with a derange delusional lair in the White House and a Congress that looks the other way while their "Putin Puppet" does and says what he wants.

Roberts is very disappointing. He at least used to stay above the fray and feign non-partisanship, even if he voted with them 95% of the time. Now he's going rogue from judicial impartiality.

(7,617 posts)Now see, this is why people perceive us Dems to be weak ... and in a way they're right because perception is reality. Instead, we need to steal a page from their book and never apologize, never back down, never surrender and certainly not just give up like Sen. Gore did. IOW, we must be willing to do whatever is necessary to regain power however distasteful that may be.
We need strong leadership from a President and party leaders, plus an effective whip in Congress such that all our members are on the same page in a united front with no defections.
i.e. we need to do what the GrOPers have done with such success since at least Ray Gun.
Maybe 20 years after we are back in power (if that ever happens) and we've cleaned out that rat's nest in Congress, the SCOTUS, the entire Federal bureaucracy and reversed every law and policy they've put in place, maybe then, but only then, can we afford to be "fair", go high when they go low and sing Kumbaya around the campfire as we roast marshmallows together in a spirit of Brotherhood and Love joyfully celebrating our common Humanity.
But meanwhile, we have a hell of a lot of work to do, much of it difficult and some of it quite unpleasant. The alternative however will be even more unpleasant ... especially for our grand and great grandbabies.

(9,426 posts)when he presided over that sham of an impeachment trial. He allowed Moscow Mitch to set the rules - no witnesses, no evidence trail. He already knew the verdict before the so-called trial even began, it had been broadcast by McConnell, yet Roberts sat quietly and allowed justice to be denied. That would have been a prime example where he could have proved that he was not just a tool for the gop, but he did not. What is the purpose of a so called "Supreme Court", when we all know exactly how each of them will vote in any instance? Time to set term limits on these free loaders with their jobs for life.

(39 posts)They always say, "the truth hurts", and that's why Roberts responded to Schumer. But he has no room to talk with that phony impeachment trial. Roberts showed just how worthless he is. American justice used to have integrity, but with this group of GOP appointed judges it's nothing but a farce. Politicians in robes. Once American gets back on our feet, we should start impeachment against them all.

First, let RBG take a well-earned retirement if she wants and get a good replacement for her. Merrick Garland would do nicely.
Then hold some real hearings on Kavanaugh, with evidence for kicking his butt out.
Examine the political ties of Thomas'wife and his involvement/connection.

(21,346 posts)a Dem Congress. And hold onto it 2 years later in the midterm backlash.
I remember saying in 2008 when Obama won that he would face some strong opposition and attacks. We would have to have his back. Everyone I spoke to agreed with me.
But in 2010, they had moved on, were satisfied that he was in office, and lost interest in activism. I heard many people say that the tea party was a bunch of fringe loserd, nothing to worry about.
2020 is the same. Lots of support to get rid of Trump, but once he is gone, we must remain active to fight off the backlash from people who only oppose Trump but do not support Dems.
