(15,265 posts)of MN was fantastic as well as his kind words about Bernie.
I also like to think that I originated the giving him due process meme here. 😁

Taken, I think by Franni, at New Year's just over 2 months ago:

(9,952 posts)for him to step down? You need a source? Google how many accusations against Frankin or How many senators asked him to resign.

(32,816 posts)The first time Ive ever heard this allegation was from you. Now trump on the other hand IS CREDIBLY accused of sexually assaulting at least 29 women. But Im sure youre not concerned about that. There is also a rapist on the Supreme Court. Enjoy the dust bin.

(7,509 posts)Four accusers were anonymous with differing degrees of credibility.
One of the anons claims Franken kissed her on stage in front of 700 people. People actually in the audience are unable to corroborate that account.
As Franken said, "Its difficult to respond to anonymous accusers."
The last accusation that ultimately forced Franken to resign is Tina Dupuy's dramatic account of Franken (GASP!) holding her waist during a photo op.
This was despite Dupuy writing multiple social media postings immediately after the event in question that praised Franken and mentioned nothing about the alleged incident.

(7,509 posts)Each and every one of those accusations strains belief and/or common-sense logic. At worse, they paint a man with boundary issues, not a sexual predator who should be out of a job.
That picture in particular was a bald-face lie. Jane Mayer in her New Yorker piece showed that the pose was from a USO comedy sketch, and there was a similar photo where Tweeden laughed off Franken's antics.
And you still think he should resign for that obvious hit job?

Merely saying 8 accusation is not a smear. It is that fact or "record straight" you boost of.

This is not complicated.

(13,952 posts)Unfortunately a lot of Senate Democrats jumped on the bandwagon to have him resign. But make no mistake, this was ratfucking by the Republicans and wont be forgotten by rank-and-file Democrats.

(54,335 posts)None have apologized publicly, but eight have done so to Al privately. One who is not ashamed to say so is Bill Nelson of Florida. Talk about one who lost his Senate seat due to Republican shenanigans. Bill has now joined the club, and he knows it. He was there with Al over New Year's.
Of those eight, none were among the five major Senate presidential candidates who publicly urged him to resign (Harris, Warren, Sanders, Booker, Gillibrand). For that reason, I opposed the presence of any of them on the 2020 ticket. I still do. If they were so cynically opportunistic as to do that to one of the Senate's best members (and their own best allies), they were/are not suited to be the leader of my/our country. I still feel that way. I have since found out something so disgusting, if this election weren't so important, I would consider not voting if the tainted element were on our ticket. But I don't think that will happen, and either way, I will hold my tongue if it does. Trump disappearing is far more important than whether or not someone I don't want is on the ticket or not.
It was indeed a Republican scam from the start. Scripted as perfectly as anything else they have pulled in the last ten years. I'm sure the Republicans intended the whole incident as a distraction to allow Roy Moore to get elected as Senator from Alabama. I'm sure the last thing they expected to accomplish was to fell Al Franken with a warning shot. If a sitting Senator falls for THAT obvious a scam, how can we expect them, as president, to stand up to Xi, Putin, Orban and other foreign leaders who wish us ill?

(54,335 posts)Maybe in five years, when all this craziness is long forgotten. I know Al and those present will never forget. Of the many reasons why he would have difficulty returning to the Senate and working with those who were willing to trash him publicly, this is definitely one of them. They say time heals all wounds. This will need some serious time because it was a serious wound.
Sometimes one is better off letting sleeping dogs lie, and this is one such time. It is just one a can of worms better left unopened. Suffice it to say that all our heroes are still human, and still capable of doing things we'd prefer not knowing they were capable of doing.
