https://www.pressherald.com/2020/03/07/with-trump-the-only-choice-more-maine-republicans-than-usual-opt-to-leave-ballots-blank/AUGUSTA Roughly one in five Republican voters in Maines largest towns left President Trumps oval blank or wrote in another name during Tuesdays presidential primary, an analysis of voting results shows.
Unlike Democratic voters in Maine, who could choose among 12 candidates listed on the ballot, Maine Republicans had only one official option for their partys nominee during the Super Tuesday primary: Donald Trump.
But a review of election results from more than 25 of Maines largest towns and cities shows that 21 percent of Republican presidential primary ballots were recorded as blank. The higher-than-usual number of blank ballots at least when compared with uncontested congressional or gubernatorial primaries in Maine potentially raises questions about enthusiasm for Trump even within his own party in Maine.
Twenty-five percent is a high number, yes, said Fran Smith, town clerk in Brunswick, where 24.3 percent of Republican presidential ballots were recorded as blank. I cant say why people (left) it blank and its not unusual when you have only one candidate to have a slightly higher percentage of people who leave it blank. But that struck me as a high number.

(13,855 posts)Guess he wont be tweeting his usual twice a week boasts 95% approval among Republicans. Thank you!
I have always, as a minor protest, declined to vote for anyone who appears without an opponent on a ballot. Reminds me too much of the Soviet Union elections where the Premier would get 99% of the vote because he was the only one on the ballot and someone was watching you mark
your ballot.

(5,275 posts)This election may well be our last chance to keep us sliding into Autocracy. We are not far off.
Just heard Documentary Film maker Alex Gibney on Al Frankens Sunday Sirius XM show. His new film draws parallels between Russias slide back to Autocracy with Putin to the threat we face in that direction from Twitler. It is scary contemplating where we will slide if we do not beat Trump, and hopefully by a landslide in November.
We are so close to losing our democracy. I side with Bernie but.....those rabid Bernie fans threatening not to vote for anyone else, and who have sent threatening messages to other candidates......get your head right, do you really want four more years of this? Get your head right!
