1. Not surprising

There is a position open on the ticket just under Biden, and as long as no decision has been made as to whom it will be offered, I suspect that a few people under consideration for it (or would at least like to be) will endorse Biden early if interested. Given Biden's age, that position will likely be upgraded to "next president" within the next five years if he is nominated and elected. Whatever terms one may have used to describe Harris in the past, I don't recall "idiot" being one of them.
