STG DU should have a rule about including links, especially during this crisis.

(12,265 posts)1. A college campus is a petri dish of people.
From all 50 states, other countries, all travel a great deal. Plus all of the faculty who travel internationally to present their research. I don't see how they can adequately protect themselves.

I will say our administration is keeping abreast of the situation and is having daily, if not 2x daily, meetings on response planning. Right now, as far as I know, there are no positive cases in Delaware, and the ones who have been suspected have been more downstate and came back negative. Someone was sent home today who came back into work with the flu. He has a desk in our IT bullpen area and was in for about 3 hrs before a supervisor sent home.

We have a lot of Chinese faculty in our department. They have been asked not to travel home, if they do they will be quarantined for two weeks. There was also one that went out to students about traveling during spring break which is a week from Monday.

HOUSTON Rice has canceled in-person classes and undergrad teaching labs this week amid concerns about the coronavirus.
The campus remains open and scheduled events with fewer than 100 people are still happening.
In a statement, the university said, "As the world grapples with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 and the university has managed its own case of the virus in an employee who contracted it during international travel, the Crisis Management Team's decisions are guided by the following priorities:
"1. Protecting the health and safety of the Rice community while maintaining the ability to conduct our teaching and research mission.
"2. Basing decisions on guidance and information provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Houston Health Department and Harris County Public Health."
There are no classes next week because of Spring Break.
