Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman on Monday took stock of President Donald Trumps efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic, and he found himself having a hard time imagining how they could be worse.
If you set out to design the worst possible leader for a crisis, it would be Trump, Krugman wrote on Twitter. Aggressively ignorant, lashes out at anyone who tells him what he doesnt want to hear and tragically with a large following of Americans who believe what he says.
Krugman said that Trumps leadership has been particularly pernicious because he is constantly contradicting both his own administration officials and public health experts in an effort to minimize the impact the virus is having on the stock market.
He isnt just failing to respond to the crisis, hes actively blocking anyone elses efforts to respond, Krugman wrote. And hes giving bad advice that millions will follow, making things worse.

(12,712 posts)Of course. The one doing the experimenting is always Trump. The character he plays is what matters here.
There is going to be a lot of cognitive dissonance until people understand that you are a mark if you don't see the con man behind the shtick. So far, that's still not very common, but maybe it will be. To one side he's a stable genius, (the most gullible) and to the other side, he's an incompetent oaf, (the incredulous). It is amazing how he can do that just right, too, but then, he has had lots of practice from real estate con to reality TV show acting.
No! He is a confidence man. Can you see how far he has come with that? It is what we don't see or know that is key here and maybe that will become more evident if we are lucky.
That's just a brief, overall hyperbolic outline. Think about it. Give it some time to sink in. If you pay careful attention to what he has done and is doing, you may then at least see why I bring it up often. If not, that's fine, but I think the con continues that way.
