My husband and I put a deposit on a 12-day bus tour of Germany for July. This is something he really wants to do, and he wants to go this year because he doesnt know if his health will be good enough to go next year. We are both 66 and in pretty good health right now, but he had a-fib and a stroke in January (all recovered now, on meds). Im nervous about going, not that Im afraid of getting Covid 19, but worried about flights and trips being canceled. Who knows what the virus situation will be in July. Also, our dog is old and has health issues- may not live much longer- we cant really put her in a kennel. Id rather cancel and reschedule once the virus scare is over and maybe after the dog is gone. What would you do?
we can do it

(51,432 posts)Older dogs will get sad and stressed from missing their parents and that is not good on a senior dog's system.
I couldnt leave my elderly dog; the virus would have nothing to do with it.

Smart travel companies will do that to reassure customers and build up good will.
speculatively,

(15,805 posts)your decision is clear. You would be well justified to postpone your trip. Given that the virus is still expanding there's no way to predict that you will still find all the amenities and planned events will still exist as advertised. If the tour company falters or vendors back out due to an abundance of worry over health, you might end up stranded.
Since it appears that most European countries are taking a very proactive approach to containing the spread of the virus through quarantines and entry point restrictions. There's the real world possibility that you might find yourselves detained because you came from Trump's America, a country like Italy without adequate testing and treatment polices.
Stay safe and plan your trip after the pandemic is gone.
