"SNIP....

The big picture: Coronavirus is stifled by early and aggressive action — and no matter how well-intentioned, half-measures only seem to make things worse.

The magic formula from South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore:

* Social distancing on a massive scale, quarantining infected areas, canceling big events and closing schools and offices to slow down the spread.

* Intensive testing for all who want it, and surveillance and monitoring of the infected to try to limit outbreaks.

* Emergency efforts to ensure people don't avoid care over cost concerns, because everyone is at greater risk of infection if the uninsured and underinsured avoid treatment.

Between the lines: The U.S. response thus far has been a series of half-measures, with predicable results.

......SNIP"

Except in private, when he won't shake hands and tries to insulate himself.
He doesn't give a fugg about Main Street America.

CDC, HHS, and FDA obstructed rational response. And now are trying to take credit for efforts ramping up from the public/private entities and labs they obstructed.

I would be ok because I’m a SAHM but what about single parents or homes where both parents work? Who will pay for the child care or the wage loss? In my province we have a 2 weeks long spring break that causes families who can’t afford vacation a lot of grief as they scramble to find places for their kids while they work.

and she told me that its VERY common for people in this industry to work when they are sick. That includes hotel maids, waitresses, receptionists, etc. Their managers don't send them home because then they would be short-staffed. She said she didn't think the coronavirus would be any different because people need their paychecks so badly.
