There are potentially pernicious partisan gaps on how Americans view the coronavirus outbreak and the media coverage, according to a new Axios-Survey Monkey poll.

The big picture: 62% of Republicans said news reports about the illness are "generally exaggerated" — double the 31% of Democrats who feel the same way.

By the numbers: Overall, 39% of American adults see the virus as "easily spread," with Democrats more likely to say so than Republicans.

* Approximately 22% of Americans surveyed view a federal mandate for anyone exposed to the virus as a threat to their personal rights.

* Democrats are also more likely to avoid public spaces than Republicans.

there, we would of course have still had Obama's pandemic response team and the CDC and FDA would have been in better shape, but it may have gotten here and broke out anyway. I'd like to think it would have been blocked or slowed way down to give us a chance to develop better treatments and testing, but it may still have been bad.

If it's bad, it's kind of hard to prove your success, even if you did better than anyone else could have. That "its just the flu" crap is blowing up in their faces big time. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear that again, even from FOX "News". Trump really screwed up with that.

interview. Political parties are not trying to politisize this here. Canadians hate Trump and his false narratives. If the conservatives tried to do that, score political points, they would be shouted down by the public. Trump is so corrupt about letting private industry either benefit, not letting private industry be too hurt, letting the government agencies look weaker, not helping the poor or uninsured that it made me want to weep. They corrected course today. Me wonders if it is not because the Trump base believe coronavirus is not that dangerous and are in danger of not slowing the virus where they live. I don't know why they elevated government to the same level as private industry today, so I'm speculating. Last week they were baiting. This week not so much. Maybe Gaetz slleping in a car woke them. This is not something that needs to be politisized if you are in a place that is not corrupt. Like when ninjas throw marbles on the ground to stop the enemy from advancing so too does the trump WH throw marbles at the truth. They could not stop themselves or see that the truth would keep it from becoming political and hurting them.

and an actual plan? The first thing you can tell here is the total cases are way too low. Or at least if you run the numbers, deaths divided by mortality rate, either 2% or 3.4%, tell you there must be more cases. I guess that's known cases and estimated cases

Canadians evacuated from cruise ships sent to isolated military base or isolated conference centers. We are buying toilet paper and assuming it is going to be much worse. Authorities in my province are going to set up COVID-19 testing sites away from emergency rooms so people don't get infected in the emergency rooms. Each province has their own single health authority so coordination is great. There is no mess to coordinate as there is in the US. I have a cold so i am self isolating so it does not spread (though there is phlegm and no fever so it is definitely not coronavirus, still i don't want it to spread and confuse people, especially at my dad's nursing home - i always stay home when i am sick). All in all information is good. If i get it i call the provincial health authority and do what they say in terms of being tested. My sister is on the case. My dad's health care workers are on the case. I'm worried but confident our government will be able to slow it down with full citizen participation.

we think we have it in my town. Just across the eastern border of Washington state. 300 mile or so from where most of their cases are. I've only heard it will be a mess if people show up at the ER and urgent care clinics. They should be setting up a testing center in any suitable facility just for this virus. No plan yet.

Overheard a 60-something woman at the local grocer today: "It's all hysteria. When we were kids back on the farm, we'd use a bucket to haul water up from an open well and then pass the ladle around to drink from. Nobody got sick and died!"

I felt like interjecting some common sense but what's the point?

Donnie Dollhands is a frickin criminal.

They are 100 times more likely to believe Donnie Short Fingers extorted a foreign country to interfere in our constitutional mandated fair elections.

Democrats are 100 times more likely to think that the president charging $650 a night to the Secret Service for a stay in a cockroach infested hotel so the president can pay his own business to play golf is illegal. Seriously, the Donnie Shit for Brains properties are so bad, the cockroaches have bedbugs.

Democrats are 1000 more times to see facts for what they are.

Once again, it will come down to Democrats to save our country.

Are now "meh" about an actual threat to their health and those they love?

:smdh: There is no helping these people.

I'm going to extend a prediction here that this is just like the 2016 election and the only reason for their lack of concern is that they think the virus is either only going to effect people they don't like or in a worst case more of the people they don't like and the tide will turn when it effects them personally.

Wow, blind hatred your name is Republican.
