If a chain is only as strong as its weakest link

then I apologize for my home state of Alabama for keeping the nation so endangered. Few other states exhibit the historic issues with criminal justice, poverty, education, de jure racism, ethical vacuity, health care and political tribalism as Alabama.

The current GOP run-off between former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Tommy Tuberville for Sessions' old senate seat is a perfect example. Sessions is far from an enlightened candidate. He has a history with racist behavior, xenophobic perspectives and intolerant governance. However, there's little comparison between him and former football coach Tuberville.

Sessions graduated from law school, served as a federal prosecutor, state attorney general and finally as a U.S. Senator for 20 years.

Tuberville established a reputation for lying, selfishness, laziness and greed in his peripatetic career. He was also named as a defendant in a financial fraud case. He paid $1.3 million and cooperated with plaintiffs to avoid further damage in the case.

So between two candidates, one is educated, experienced and qualified.

The other is unqualified, less educated, inexperienced and is a proven flim-flam man.

So which will Alabama choose? Well, the second of course. Now that the Oval Office grifter has endorsed the second -- an even bigger warning sign -- it's a foregone conclusion.

Sorry, America. I know we're keeping you back.

So don't feel so bad. My former states have Marsha Blackburn and Cindy Hyde-Smith.

I did grow up in California so I do have that (Harris and Feinstein).

That's really saying something considering Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, III's track record.

I fully expect Tuberville to get nabbed in more shady matters within the next few years. He won't be able to resist the temptation and has already shown his character, or lack thereof.
