Travelers who expected to board Princess Cruises Caribbean Princess today at Port Everglades, FL, for a 10-day voyage to Panama Canal have been notified that their cruise was canceled.
The cruise line notified passengers of the cancellation by email late Tuesday. The email attributed the cancellation to an anticipated shortage of labor at the port.
On Tuesday, health officials disclosed that three part-time employees of a port services contractor that worked for Princess Cruises at Port Everglades tested positive for coronavirus, possibly exposing thousands of cruise passengers.
Port Everglades spokeswoman Ellen Kennedy said Princess Cruises officials told her they stopped using the contractor, Metro Cruise Services, and hired another company in its place. But even if the cruise line planned to assign some of the duties to its own employees, it might not have had enough time to fill all the positions, she said.
The cruise lines next scheduled departure from the port is Saturday, when Sky Princess is booked to begin a seven-day Western Caribbean trip.

Earnings can turn on a dime, and it doesn't take long for any of the three to head for the sewer.
I'll stick with my home improvement, coffee, and booze stocks that seem to ride out the bad times.
