Produce is the most touched item in any grocery store.
You can easily reduce the spread of any disease by wearing gloves when grocery shopping.
...any gloves. Trying to reduce your exposure is what counts.
How many times have you grabbed a pack of hamburger only to get leaking bloody juice on your hand?

Adding a simple glove protection layer will not save your life, but will certainly reduce some exposure. to what other people left behind.

4. You can use hand sanitizer on disposable gloves, or wash with soap, water

Realize that you are spreading germs with your gloves too. If you touch something contaminated, it gets on the glove and can transfer to the next thing you touch. if you notice you have, for instance, blood from that leaky beef on your glove, dispose of it, or grab a cleansing wipe or sanitize them.

Wash or sanitize your hands after you remove gloves too, because they may have a minute leak.

But yes, used properly gloves can help.

6. Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some. I'm over 70 and use public transportation

daily so I've been thinking of ways to limit my exposure without going overboard.

I've always washed my hand frequently, but I've been doing a better job of it lately. I've started using hand sanitizer and trying not to touch my face, which is harder than I expected.

To my knowledge, there have been no confirmed cases in my state, but I know that won't last.

ETA: I spoke too soon. The map for confirmed cases now includes Arkansas.

If you think about it, who is buying tissues? A lot of sick people.

8. And clean your phone

I was thinking about this the other day. People are on their smart phones constantly, almost like it's a third hand. So you wash your hands, wash the grocery cart handle; you're good, right? But then you pick up all sorts of items to put in your cart as you are holding your phone in your hand (texting, googling,whatever). The virus can live on your phone for up to 9 days.

You go home from the store, wash your hands again, but forget to clean your phone. Next time you pick it you could be contaminating your hands again.

I will err on the side of caution and try to keep my phone in my pocket. If I have to take it out to use for whatever reason I will need to remember to wipe it off. Or I can keep it in a plastic bag (like a glove for my phone!) when out and about. Take it out of the plastic when I get home.
