This sense of community in real time. I been having it rough still, but just with some replies to my posting that I don't take for granted in expectation, you dear ones have brought tears to my eyes. You may not realize how this props me up and sustains me.
Love in my heart for all.

(14,488 posts)Us old farts are pretty tough and resiliant and I thank my Depression-era parents for that. After suffering the worst year of my life with multiple losses of family and friends to death, I thought surely it would get better this year. But it's not to be.
We here are a wonderful collection of compassionate, right-thinking souls and we form a social base of support for each other every day.
Let's keep it going in our traditional loving DU style, putting out the fires of anger and hate one day at a time.
Best wishes and peace to you.

(20,217 posts)Yah, we seasoned ones are pretty resilient. Even being recipients of, but not succumbing to, the hardballs life lobs at us.
I may be wearied, but haven't fainted.
May we all take your lovely and edifying words to heart.
Peace be to you as well. 💜

(20,217 posts)Some here know my husband of nearly 47 years of marriage reposed last year about this time--cardiac arrest.
It continues to be so strange an experience. Every emotion they say plus I think I added some new ones. 😏
Then this unthinkable mess the country's in.
I'm up, down, sideways.
This community gathering is my link to sanity and keeping grounded.
Here you feel and know you're not isolated in your emotions and intellect assessing truth out there in the midst of such perversion from these running our nation into the ground.
Nevertheless, we persist. My fervent hope is for all of us to attain a victorious outcome when all is said and done.

I see how we've arrived at the present situation we find ourselves in. Seemingly, stealth was employed, deliberately and slowly in increments.
Dear God, can this be undone?

(9,641 posts)Could you imagine going through drumpf/coronavirus hell, and not having a place like this to come to?
We get to go crazy together, we get to yell and scream through our phones, we support each other, we make each other laugh during the worst of times.
I know I can wake up at 3 a.m., and someone will be here if I can't sleep.
I bet we are all like this in that often times we will read something that really touches us, but we don't have the time to reply. Or someone makes us laugh at a time we so needed it.
sprinkleeninow, I'm so glad you posted what you did. You often bring joy to me, and I bet you don't even know that.

(81,126 posts)What a nice thread, sprinkleeninow!! Look what you started!
It's good to remember what we've got here, with a place like DU, at contentious times like these. It's both a hang-out and a refuge - and often both at once!
I'm grateful for this place. It's gotten me through some pretty funky times, and helped me make sense of a lot of things. SOOOO many great people here, with so many wonderful and unique takes on what we're all going through together.
I get strength, support, and ideas here. And some really big laughs!

(20,217 posts)At times I don't know who I am. It's like living in a not good dream.
Vignettes of my past life moreso with the husband just keep showing up. Stuff that hasn't entered my memory in decades. Mb the natural progression of this new 'life'...
A place to hang AND a refuge as you so spot on expressed!

(54,302 posts)We all have our things we have to deal with, but we all know that there is ALWAYS someone who has it worse than most of us do, and we are there with a shoulder to lean on when that moment comes, as it does sooner or later for so many of us. You won't hear from the one-trick ponies with their narrow agendas, but they are seasonal visitors and not really members or full-time participants. Most of us here are real-life people, and you can ALWAYS talk to us.
sprinkleeninow
(20,217 posts)maybe going through something a whole lot worse and so you put your problem in perspective and commiserate with the other.
Yes, I find exactly that. Real life people with no façade[s]. Or being 'plastic'.
Cheers, DFW.
All the best to you and your lovelies! 💜
