It could be incompetence.

But Trump's constant insistence on how his action to stop flights for China slowed down the virus, implies he is covering up for more than incompetence.

His mentality of "I hate Democrats and anything with a taint of liberalism" and his removing as many of the long term experts and replacing them with political hacks would probably give the same results as if he were just blowing it off on purpose.

Did Trump originally want to impede testing to depress the numbers?

Did Trump insist that we could stop it at our borders and testing wasn't necessary on a large scale.

Did Trump's xenophobia extend to wanting a 100% pure, all-American "brilliant" test?

Did someone profit off of the delay?

These are the possibilities that I have considered. It may be a number of them, but I'm sure the delay was because of at least one.

to give private labs the ability to make $$ from the testing.

With tRump, everything is monetized. They knew about this danger back in December, and if not then, certainly by early January. The rest of the civilized world started ramping up creation of test kits as soon as the Chinese had sequenced the genetic makeup of this virus and created their prototype testing materials. The articles I've encountered indicate that tRump wanted to privatize the creation of these kits in the US by a company he had a financial interest in, which is all too much like this motherfucker to not be credible. They botched the job and it slowed the process by weeks. Instead of getting on bended knee before European allies to plead for some kind of joint production effort, he decided to cowboy on and begin the public denial that this virus isn't a killer plague.

This, as everything else this inept idiot touches, is a total clusterfuck of epic proportions. And we worried about a nuclear strike! At least everything would have been over quick. Now look at this horror. This is nothing short of psychopathic criminal negligence. And his *European Travel Ban* (WTF), with the exception of the UK is another shit for brains bunch of crap. Too little too late and why is he seemingly punishing American allies? (I don't disagree with banning travel, BTW, especially leisure travel, etc.). But leaving the singular exception, the UK, was a mystery to me - until I realized Shit for Brains has golf resorts in Scotland. So, of course, gotta keep those hotel rooms filled and the greens groomed. I want to cry. But then I've been on the verge of hysterical sobs for four years on.

Who does this virus kill? His voter base. Blue states will manage this to mitigate spread and loss of life with the resources they have. They will work hard to get a handle on this.

Coronavirus, will be able to test 500 people per day this week and 1000 per day next week. And opening a drive-through testing center next week. It took a lot of hard work to get it done. If they can do it, why can’t our government? Maybe because medical people do medical stuff better than politicians?
