Suggestions for best ways to help people impacted by Coronavirus?

I know we’re heading into uncharted territory, but any suggestions on good ways to focus energy and/or time to help people get through this? Organizations to donate to or volunteer? Want to help, not quite sure best places to focus 🙂

Doing things that allow them to avoid contact with others would be helpful. Pick up groceries, meds, take pets to the vet etc

Send every taxpayer a check to make it through the month or so. How much... at least $1000, maybe $2500.

is one thing my sister and I will likely be doing.

I have a neighbor couple in their late 80s and I've been trying to think of ways to help them.

One of my local grocery stores just introduced self check out. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but my sister and I were thinking of asking them to hold off until after this virus moves through because of how unhygienic the self-check out stations are. (My town has a very high population of elderly folks.)

I'm on the lookout for other ideas too. We do have a local service that brings food to people who can't get out.

Great idea for a thread!

I see it every time we have a major tornado here in Oklahoma. Everybody comes together to help, nobody asks what party they voted for. We worked the last time next to a guy in a "vote republican" hat. We all were there to help the families who had lost everything. He was shocked when we were ready to go home and he shook my husband's hand and asked him what he did and he said he was a professor who was raised by an electrician and a secretary. He smiled and said "I'll be damned".

Some of my friends here are volunteering through the senior center to deliver food and medicine to older people who have compromised immune systems. You might check and see if your senior center is doing something like that. My husband is checking on our neighbors to make sure they are all ok, we have a lot of elderly neighbors.

wanting to help...

for those needing to stay in...

run errands, pickup scripts, groceries, misc
babysit
call on schedule to check up
take meals to shut-ins
ask individuals what they need
etc...
