Ben Wittes to GOP Senators (excl Mitt) "Every one of you chose to risk today happening."

Benjamin Wittes ✔@benjaminwittes

A quick reminder to every Republican senator not named @MittRomney that a few weeks ago, each and every one of you voted against removing Donald Trump from office. Every one of you knew he was unfit for office when you did this. Every one of you chose to risk today happening.

I used to have a Revell model of it, sans weapon (my parents wouldn't buy me a nuclear bomb ). After the successful test -- shooting a 15 kiloton device seven miles -- 200 more were built and deployed to Europe and Korea. The development of missiles soon made the system obsolete. Wikpedia

40. Atomic Annie was designed to ONLY fire nuclear rounds

The Army went three ways with nuclear artillery:

One group invented the Atomic Annie cannon, which was made to fire nuclear rounds and only nuclear rounds. (I have no idea what they used for target practice on this system.)

One group invented 155mm and 8-inch nuclear projectiles that would work in the standard 6-inch and 8-inch guns the Army already had.

And the third invented the Honest John nuclear-tipped rocket.

The “specialty” groups - the Atomic Annie and Honest John people - soon found themselves out of a job. The Army decided it was much more efficient to buy the few 155mm and 203mm nuclear rounds they might need, and have them fired by each division’s general-support artillery battalion.

To demonstrate how little the Army actually wanted a nuclear mission, when the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System replaced the M110 8” howitzer, no nuclear rocket was ever designed for it.

either Putin launches full scale Ukraine invasion or North Korea actually launches an actual nuke (they have to test their missile delivery with a real warhead sometime).

or some other fresh hell...

Since we don't know who or where to avoid, and no clear leadership, just give it another week or 2 and our country will be up to our eyeballs in sick people.

Meanwhile, Russia reporting only about 30 people infected. Is that a lie? Is it because they too aren't testing? Likely so on both counts.

But if Putin were waiting for a chance to strike, this would be the time to do it.

ethnic Russian enclaves and deserved to join the motherland.

Of course, ignores the history of the region.

But, yes, Trump might well be too distracted to do much of anything.

As for the generals taking over... I really don't think they would here. Civilian authority is highly ingrained in the military command mindset.

Based on what I read on Politico last week. I think someone on Pelosi's staff said he's doing a decent job of working with Congressional leaders and providing some reassurance, unlike Trump. And when I heard Pence do a press conference the other day he sounded a lot more presidential than Trump has. Still don't trust him as far as I can throw him, but at least it feels like he takes his job and the virus seriously.

I don't want to imply that I think he's doing a good job, but at least he can string together a full sentence, and he seems to understand that the medical professionals know what they are doing.

He also doesn't have luxury properties around the globe whose fate influences his decision making.

It's a poor alternative, but it's much better than what we have now.

Republicans are in power in the White House and Senate, and they can just keep shoving incompetent, white nationalist judges onto the federal courts. And guess what, i and when more people start dying, they still won’t care. They’ll just send the same useless thoughts and prayers they send to the victims of mass shootings and then refuse to do anything about them. What a bunch of corrupt human beings.
