Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island has canceled graduation ceremonies for new Marines indefinitely amid the spread of the coronavirus.
The base announced the decision in a Facebook post Thursday. Remaining family activities were also canceled, and new Marines and their families were to leave the depot Thursday.
Close to 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island for training after enlistment each year. The base trains male recruits from the eastern half of the U.S. and all of the countrys female recruits.

As a Marine Corps brat who considers PI as her home town - well, this is kind of a big deal - also hurts next door town of Beaufort, where many graduates families stay in motels and enjoy the local restaurants

(13,522 posts)A ton of retirement communities blossomed there starting in the early eighties and - yeah, its kinda bigly now...downtown is all gentrified, too - not the funky Beaufort I used to know and love!!
