On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made it clear he opposes the current House legislation for coronavirus relief, which includes free testing, food assistance, and paid sick leave for infected workers and their caregivers.
According to the Courier-Journal, McConnell swatted away these ideas as partisan on the Senate floor.
Instead of working within existing law and within existing systems to deliver targeted relief as efficiently and effectively as possible, the speakers proposal would stand up a needless thicket of new bureaucracy, said McConnell.
He went on to praise President Donald Trumps efforts to increase small business loans and restrict international travel, adding, unfortunately, it appears at this hour that the speaker and House Democrats instead chose to produce an ideological wish list that was not tailored closely to the circumstances.

(16,850 posts)Mitch is one of the most despicable pieces of human excrement to ever hold his position. People will die working because they're scared of not being able to pay for the roof over their heads, they will suffer needlessly, and this disgusting fuckhead just gets to sit there with a smug look on his face and drone on about the bureaucratic implications of taking care of the American people. Fuck you Mitch

(12,712 posts)Instead of saying, "We don't give a rats as about the people, how many get sick, or who dies." he keeps the base glued to the giant GOP sphincter in its Fascist cesspool by calling whatever is for the people an "ideological wish list" by and for the "democrats". That takes the focus off of the truth because the base hates, (among many things and types of people) the democrats and don't realize that they ARE the people being affected. Bravo!
"Did you hear that Martha? The Democrats want ideeeogical wish list stuff for themselves again!"
You have to hand it to them. Just like Putin, they can gauge and manage the astounding and incredible number of gullible Americans. All those Americans would have to do, instead of feeling nonplussed and put down, is to acknowledge that they need to learn and know more and admit to the Dunning-Kruger effect, (which many of us start out with sometimes as invincible, know-it-all adolescents).
They could just learn, question and grow up for the sake of their country. It would be patriotic to get over the anti-intellectualism and grow a brain. I mean, they don't have to become Einsteins, just smarter than, say, your average squirrel.
Getting this across in some way would be on my wish list:
Just stop thinking of science is something that is similar to whatever belief system you have and notice that you are living the results of science right this minute, (no, angels don't make your computer work, sorry). Just look around and check. Physics and other scientific matters don't care if you "believe" in them or not, (it is a methodology and a discipline). Fire is hot because of combustion, now don't believe putting your hand over a lit stove will burn you severely and report the results of your experiment.
If you could simply understand what a bias is and how emotive reactions can cloud your decisions and that con men and such rely on that to influence and limit you. There are millions of dollars invested in taking advantage of gullibility and beliefs.
Finally, for believers, your beliefs are about your personal life and mind and, perhaps, your fellow believers, (and maybe good behaviors for all). That's fine and we all have or need something for to deal with our human experience. Did you know that it is really possible that beliefs and science/logic/reason do NOT have to conflict with each other? That conflict is sometimes sold to you. There are many examples of that in history and today and I recommend believing in that possibility, especially when it is clear that fundamentalism has not proven to be friendly or supportive of true freedom and real democracy. I take it you value freedom and democracy?
Otherwise, we just won't be able to have or keep a democracy because dictators use ignorance like rocket fuel for their regimes.

(1,178 posts)By saying he wants to prevent "new bureaucracy," probably what McConnell wants is for the businesses and corporations to be the ones who apply for the money and leave it up to them to disperse it to their sick employees. Which he knows what will happen is most corporations will pocket that money and the people that need it the most will never see it.

(3,131 posts)First we need enough free testing
Then the people who are positive have to isolate.
If they cant afford to do so they will not do so voluntarily in too many cases. If isolation becomes mandatory people will avoid the test.
The other option is letting the infection spread until it burns out. McConnell is picking this option.
And anyway the senate can make any changes they want to the house bill before voting on it. Like it has worked for 200+ years.
Get off your damn ass mcconnel and get something passed.

I'd LOVE to beat this mother fucker in November and knock him out of the Senate at the ballot box. If we're rid of him sooner, even better. Fuck this monster.
