It spreads by certain routes. Mere proximity isn't one of them. There has to be some reasonable way for the virus to spread from person to person, and then reach a sensitive part of the would-be target.

I wouldn't get tested if I met somebody and just shook their hand then moved on, or if we just were standing next to each other talking to a third. If he coughed and sneezed, sure. If he handed me food and I ate it, likely.

If I talked to the person on Monday and he tested positive on Sunday, probably not, if on that Sunday he was asymptomatic or just beginning to show symptoms.
