Trump is blaming Obama for CDC not being equipped to handle coronavirus

Chris Lu@ChrisLu44·3h
As Trump tries blaming Obama for CDC problems, let's recall:

-Every Trump budget has proposed cutting CDC's budget. His OMB chief still backs cutting $1.2 billion this year

-Trump's 2017 hiring freeze left 700 CDC positions vacant

(From May 2017Down pointing backhand index)

@realDonaldTrump
For decades the @CDCgov looked at, and studied, its testing system, but did nothing about it. It would always be inadequate and slow for a large scale pandemic, but a pandemic would never happen, they hoped. President Obama made changes that only complicated things further.....

.... Their response to H1N1 Swine Flu was a full scale disaster, with thousands dying, and nothing meaningful done to fix the testing problem, until now. The changes have been made and testing will soon happen on a very large scale basis. All Red Tape has been cut, ready to go!

I wonder how many terms in office before he takes any responsibility for anything?

and rightly so.

His toddler- esque attempt to blame others is pathetic.

I hope he gets his justice at last.

I remember an initial buzz about H1N1 in 2009 but it seemed to disappear from the news fairly quickly and we didn't have to take any of these same precautions. President Obama must have handled it pretty competently compared to this.

I'm going to try to find some information from 2009 - not people telling us NOW about it, but articles written at the time. Wish me luck!

Trumpers online seem to be making it sound bad and using it to defend Trump on this new virus but, aside from Republicans filibustering Obama's initial HHS Secretary until the H1N1 started becoming talked about a lot, I don't remember much about that time period. I think that it just blew over at some point without any drastic measures like what we're seeing now. I actually only the other day found out that one of my friends who lives in California had gotten it at the time.

Two and a half months after Obama's inauguration (unlike Trump, who has had over 3 years to "correct" Obama's mistakes- HA). Here is a link to the CDC's assessment of how the response went:

because he did not want Americans to know that the virus was spreading. NPR's report apparently came from an insider who had knowledge of WH meetings weeks ago when he advocated for less instead of more testing to prop up his political standing.

"but a pandemic would never happen, they hoped."

This is why the stock market keeps tanking after a Trump speech.

This is what happens when you have centuries of unchallenged leadership, dominated by white males. Trump is its purest form, condensed down to its naked truth. He's a con man without game. He's a man whose words are cockold by the quick response from social media.

Text from America to Trump: Get yourself a good lawyer. We want a divorce.

Always Obama’s fault, right. That is getting so, so old and lame.

I hope the silver lining of this may be this Idiot losing by an historical margin then being investigated for tax fraud and other improprieties. He is like a stupid mafia thug in the 30s.

Assuming we get through this dangerous aberration I would hope Republicans learn something....but I wouldn’t bet on it.
