My friend thinks I'm "freaking out & paranoid" ...then again,

She is returning from the worst county in the Bay for Covid19 - Santa clara

We both live in this remote mtn town (and with the tourism, casinos, and ski resorts still functioning, it's already alarming) Since we are really close to eachother, we usually hang out in evenings and play board games or cards and litten to music...

But I have decided to self-isolate this week as I have an autoimmune disease and attended a concert sunday and just done want to spread anything. She laughed at me and said, "Just wash your hands."
(she is also very much uninformed, doesn't follow the news AT ALL and doesnt take much seriously, very hippie live & let live attitude. I like to know a bit about whats going on in the world, even if I cant do anything to fix it - I'm also a former journalist, so ya.)

Anyway, she went down to Santa Cruz the past 2 days to finish some business, he mom's senior care facility is NO ViSITORS, but she shrugged it off. She says there's a little less traffic but it's still "normal" to her. She stayed in a hotel and no doubt ate out.

So she calls me as she is driving back and asks if I am really gonna freak out over this virus thing or come over & hang out. I told her I wasnt sure, it kinda defeats the purpose.
So she says "Well YOU aren't sick, so what's the problem...?"
Its only been 5 days since the concert and I was out wednesday as well, I'm not sure that Im not sick ...
She says, "Well you're gonna get bored"

I also wanted to point out that SHE should be self quarantining because of where she just was...
But she would really just laugh me off

I'm worried about those who DON'T take this seriously.

She's gonna stop at Costco in Sac/Folsom on the way home

She will continue to live as if nothing is amiss up here in our town, and she could be a spreader.

Willful ignorance

(and lord knows there are more of those people here in town as well, visitors and locals alike, but still...)

hold your ground, especially if you have an auto immune disease. I'll tell you I have followed this thing since mid January, even at least half the people here thought I was crazy, everything is panning out. You won't die from boredom, believe me.
It takes an average of 9 days for symptoms to come on and sometimes longer than the 14 day recommended quarantine.

I still stand my ground, when she calls later I will have to beg off.

and this time I'm going to tell her I think she could also be a carrier.
OH, and she is already planning on going back down next weekend to sign forms etc
why can't she wait, or have it done remotely?

it's selfish

This is going to happen. In my house, I've told everyone they aren't permitted to argue with my risk assessment until they've educated themselves.

I've been watching this since Feb 2, so I'm the one who is going to be making risk assessments for my family and my household, including other adults in my house (no kids here, all adults).

We are self quarantining for the next 9 days. My decision to pick 9 days is that gives plenty of time for even the most disconnected to see what's happening in the world. By then, I expect everyone will be on board for the long haul. In the meantime, no one comes or goes except for essentials or emergencies.

I have no doubt, they will understand soon.

He is 89 and his wife is upper 70s. I started telling him about it and he said he heard there weren’t many cases and the number was going down. I told him the president lied to him (via fux news) when he said it was 15 going to zero and the numbers were actually USA at around 1600. He was truly shocked.

I give him credit, he listened to me and agreed to:

*Have his housekeeper who usually drives him to the grocery store do the shopping for him
*wipe down everything with Clorox wipes when the groceries arrive
*wipe all door knobs, light switches, surfaces etc
*wash hands frequently with soap while he sings (his choice of song 😬
*don’t go out of the house unless an emergency
*cancel any routine Dr or Dentist appointments

He further suggested cancelling in home physical therapy his wife gets that isn’t critical. I agreed.

I walked him through all the major cancellations/closings like NBA, MLB, etc. As I was running through all this, on CNN scroll it came across that the Mormon Church cancelled all services worldwide. That, I think resonated the most. He is an avid church goer.

So good luck getting parents squared away.
