Almost had a heart attack. Heard Publix stores were closing "indefinitely" tomorrow at 8 pm.

Thought that would create an absolute panic across Florida, as it is far and away the most prevalent grocer here.

Thankfully, I checked and they meant they would be closing each night at 8 to clean and restock.

Not that they were shutting down for good.

That would have brought on the apocalypse.

Winn Dixie is actually closer to me than Publix, and Aldi, Target, Costco, and Walmart are not far away. Publix's prices are starting to go through the ceiling and I think they're owned by Repubs anyway.

Publix is owned by Republicans (most big corporations are, sadly) but they do put out a great product. My wife sometimes goes to Aldi's too but I'm not a big fan. Too small, no variety and too much corner cutting.

Target is okay but not quite the selection.

Walmart is just depressing.

but their prices are killing me lately. I hate myself when I go to Walmart also, but sometimes I just gotta save some pennies, ugh

Best Winn-Dixie in the Miami area, at least that I've seen.

I love Aldi but they are only open until 9 PM. My new plan had been late night at Winn-Dixie and Publix. Now Publix may be out the window.

I miss my decades in Las Vegas and grocery shopping at 2 AM. I could run the table of all the chains nearby on Maryland Parkway. I got to know all the checkout clerks on that shift.

I think there's a Walmart on Flagler St. that is open until 2 AM. I agree Walmart is depressing but I might have to accept depressing if I can grab some things amidst emptiness at 1:30 AM.

It may be owned by Republicans (I would guess that the majority are), but it's one of the best companies in the country for employees.

of stores and hours soon. I don't think the panic buying has been bad here yet. North central Idaho. I started going shopping at zero dark 30 about ten days ago to avoid crowds. I don't live in a big enough area for that place to have a big crowd waiting for them to open. 5 a.m. should be good if that's the way it's going to be for awhile.

Reasonable prices, good local produce, great people. I love that they're owned by the employees. Here in WA, they used to be known as Cub Foods, then a merger or a sale or something and a re-organization and they re-appeared as WinCo. Every now and then, there will be something that they don't carry, so I hop over to Freddy's. But Freddy's is over-priced on most items for me to shop there often. Also, WinCo has a great bakery in-store and always has cookies out.

At our 24hr Safeway... I totally get why they’d be doing that. It was absolutely insane. I suspect there is very little downtime for cleaning and restocking atm.

Also, can I just say thank you and a huge virtual hug to anyone who is having to deal directly with the public right now? Whether it’s in health care, working in retail (particularly grocery stores or places like Walmart or Target) Everyone is in a stressful situation right now, but these people are dealing in person with many stressed out strangers and in many ways are on the front lines. Thank you, and take care of yourselves.

Williston, Flaw'duh. When I last drove through in '82, there was an A&P in the middle of town and a brand-new...Albertson's? Publix? on the east side. According to the 2018 Google pics the A&P's a Taco Bell now and the other one's a "Grocery Depot." There's a new-lookin' Winn-Dixie on the west edge of a town that STILL looks like the zombie apocalypse wiped it out years ago.

Think I might have eaten lunch at McDonald's or Subway there.

It's small, but there's some nice springs in the area and it's on the way to Cedar Key, which is nice.

Cedar Key was always lovely, and the Rainbow Springs and Silver Springs tourist spots were enjoyable. (No idea if they're still in business these days.)
