When Yamiche Alcindor asked why Trump had dissolved the NSC directorate for global health security and biodefense in 2018, I knew he denied it and lied, but I just read more of the answer in context.
Others are probably well aware of this, but in case not, here's an excerpt from The Guardian
Like a schoolboy caught red-handed, he blustered:
Well, I just think its a nasty question because what weve done is and Tony has said numerous times that weve saved thousands of lives because of the quick closing. And when you say me, I didnt do it. We have a group of people I could
Alcindor followed up. Trump rambled:
Its the its the administration. Perhaps they do that. You know, people let people go. You used to be with a different newspaper than you are now. You know, things like that happen.
WTF?
"It's the administration"???
You mean, like, YOUR administration? Or just some unknown entity that does inexplicable "government-y stuff"?
"People let people go... things like that happen"???
Closing a critical directorate is akin to someone moving from one newspaper to another?? Closing a directorate is one of those things that just "happens"?
Jaw dropping. I know we shouldn't be surprised by anything that comes out of his mouth, but this is much worse than I realized.

He's always had cheats, dodges and other dipshits he could throw under the bus. This time it's different. This time the buck stops with him, and by relation, the republicans. They cant, lie, cheat or cover this up. The virus was inevitable, but it could have been slowed and managed to a degree. That's over thanks to their, and his, fully incompetent responses built entirely upon naked greed and wilful rejection of logic, science and facts.
We are on the cusp of an emergency that will potentially overwhelm all of our systems. Yet they are spinning their wheels with stunt and meaningless twaddle instead of reasonable answers. They want to give tax cuts to businesses....... Are said businesses going to keep paying us when the shutdown we know is coming happens? Probably not, but lets give them tax cuts anyway and try to pass abortion nonsense. So, yea, this time the buck absolutely stops with him and the gop, and he/they are scared shitless.
They've played their stupid fucking games along with Trump and now we've ALL lost because of it. People are afriad, beginning to get panicky and the gop leaders offer no answers. When this is over, and it will be, I hope those of us who've gone unaffected will be ready to take all of those who facilitated, and supported this mess to task. Challenge them to be part of the solution or get right the duck out of our way. Ignorance and refusal to believe in reality cant be tolerated on any level. The bell has been rung and the time for stupid is done. They're naked and alone on stage for this one.

(9,313 posts)"time for stupid is done" says it all!!!
They continue to block measures that must move forward. This is beyond "stupid."
For example, they must issues anther EUA that includes high-capacity testing protocols that, for reasons that are unclear, were excluded from the emergency use authorization of Feb 29.

These assholes starting with Nixon have gotten away with all of their crimes for far too long. They need to be taken to task once and for all, or this shit will NEVER end.

(9,313 posts)If you don't hold people accountable, there is no real change.
We let the war criminals off the hook with "look forward, not back."
We let criminal mortgage brokers, "trustees," and foreclosure mills who forged mortgage assignments to unlawfully foreclose on millions off scot free.
We let five black-robbed traitors on the Supreme Court steal an election in plain sight without consequence. (Great Book: Bugliosi, None Dare Call It Treason),
We let Bush Sr. off the hook for obstruction with "look forward, not back."
I could keep going, but it is just too heartbreaking.

If you have a department that isn't turning a profit, delete it and cut the people loose. Their lives don't matter. What happens to them doesn't matter. Just get rid of them. If there's a need for some part of the work that the department did, find a warm body to fill that space and get'em for cheaper.
An MBA type businessman has no idea what it takes to run a government. They are all about profit and just-in-time resources. Nothing matters but this quarter's numbers to them. If things really go south, reorganize the business model, do some bankruptcy, and get those stock quotes back up.
Citizens are not customers. They aren't swayed by the latest flashy commercial. They - WE - need to know that our lives aren't going to be disrupted by economic and social ups and downs. We need stability, competence, and trust. That's all gone.
chumpy is a terrible businessman and a worse national leader. We here on DU saw this coming, but not to the extent we are experiencing now. Even some rethugs are waking up to this.

(12,801 posts)He kind of talks about it in third person here. He's quick to call it "my administration " when he's spinning something positive, but this almost smacks of, "The Administration? I hardly knew the guy."

(9,313 posts)I have this image of the word "administration" bouncing around his brain with thoughts like:
"people keep talking about this 'administration' thing..."
"must be the stuff my 'administrative assistant' handles... wait, I don't have an administrative assistant... I'll ask Ivanka... or maybe the administrators are the people the chief of staff deals with?"
"there are always a lot of administrators in business -- I guess they are out there doing their thing here too."
"hmmm...."
"I'm fucking perfect tho... that administration stuff is moving along perfectly, too... those people, whoever they are, know what they are doing... they are 'my people'.. aren't they?.... maybe they aren't?... better talk to Ginni about investigating these people... I need a list of anybody in this 'branch' who has said anything against me"

We have a president and we have a Senate Majority Leader that simply -- they did all they could to dismantle the Centers for Disease Control an NIH. President Trump needs to stop pretending he can lock out disease.

(3,321 posts)He has never been held to account for any action he has ever taken. Do we, Democrats, think that we can be the first to hold him to account? I would really like to know the answer to that. Elizabeth Warren pledged to hold him to account if elected POTUS. I supported her in the primaries, I voted for her in the primaries. She has dropped out of the race due to lack of support. No candidate remaining has pledged to investigate, or hold to account, the heinous actions of this administration. Some fucking country.
