Maybe because many of us are facing our own mortality. Maybe because the result of the primaries is pretty clear, or we've just hung in here long enough to give and also gain some trust and a few good friends.
I'm enjoying this interlude in GD; it can be a spikey, offhand place. Or it could be, as it is right now, a refuge of old friends. They mostly don't don't each others names, but we've hung together through the years. That counts for a lot.
Cheers to GD.

(4,252 posts)DU is my hangout with friends I never met. I learn alot, get the lastest news, laugh at cartoons and videos, cry at sad stories, get angry, see different views and opinions.
I been here for years and I am thankful I found DU. You are family.

(9,426 posts)I log onto DU several times a day. So great to be with people who agree with my opinions on tRump and the gop. Also I learn about what is happening elsewhere without having to go there (like Faux).

(32,674 posts)Back in the 90s I was a member of an online group and we all felt that way. Then we decided to meet up in real life. About 20 or 30 of us met up in a park in Bay City.
Just didn't work out so well. Ended up sitting at separate tables and posting each other. It were very strange.

The support we can give each other, the information we can share at times like this are invaluable.
