UK Dr: "It is imperative to #delay and 'flatten' the epidemic curve to ensure the #NHS can cope"
Dr Miriam Orcutt @miriamorcutt
Our letter @thetimes requesting government share scientific evidence behind #COVID19 #publichealth response to retain scientific/healthcare community, and publics understanding, cooperation and trust @richardhorton1 @Dr2NisreenAlwan @devisridhar @PWGTennant @drannewilson 1/4
It is imperative to #delay and flatten the epidemic curve to ensure the #NHS can cope. This is particularly essential for the UK which according to OECD data, has 2.5 hospital beds per 1000 population- behind Italy (3.2), France (6.0) and the USA (2.8) #FlattenTheCurve 2/4
There is also no clear indication that the UKs response is being informed by the experiences of other countries in containing the spread of Covid-19 #Response #GlobalPandemic #COVID19 #lessonslearned 3/4
For the above reasons, we request the government urgently and openly shared the scientific evidence, data and models it is using to inform its decisions on the Covid-19 public health interventions in the UK #transparency #publichealth #trust @BorisJohnson @CMO_England 4/4

Italy's system is on the verge of collapse, and they have 3.2 beds per 1000.
The US only has 2.8 beds per 1000.
