These people must be completely full of shit.
What these idiots don't understand is this, there are MILLIONS of disabled people and senior citizens who live alone, they get assistance from people like me. These people are on fixed incomes and when they go shopping they cannot afford to buy bulk. They pick up a few rolls of toilet paper, other items, etc, to get through the week or maybe a month.
Many of them are going to run out of toilet paper, other items and they will not be able to buy any. It really pisses me off. I have actually been yelling at people at the grocery store. I have talked to the managers of stores I visit and told them to put limits in place. Stop the fucking madness.
Believe it or not, I don't know if this is true. Someone told me people were panic buying vodka to use as hand sanitizer. Sounds crazy, but I would not doubt it.

(25,816 posts)I went to Lowes today for a few things. They were out of tp but have lots of
paper towels. Next Wal-Mart for a few things, no tp or paper towels at all. The entire
aisle was empty. Then to Fry's (Kroger) for food supplies. Once again the entire tp and
paper towel aisle was empty. Bulk beans and rice were gone and many other things.
"Social distancing" will not be hard once everyone runs out of tp.

(12,806 posts)Went to the store last night for a "normal" grocery run and dry beans were on my mental list. But I forgot to go down that aisle, so I don't know if they were already picked clean. Paper towels weren't gone, but pretty well picked over. But toilet paper was... wiped out. (haha Pun intended!)

(115,659 posts)If it were cholera it would be a whole different situation, but it's not like you're going to need any more than the usual amount of TP for a respiratory illness. I was at Costco about a week before things really went off the rails and I bought the large pack of TP that I usually buy when I go to Costco. There was still a fair amount of TP although the stack was lower than usual, but I didn't think much of it. I did notice that a number of shoppers were stocking up on it, plus bottled water (I haven't figured that one out, either). It didn't occur to me to buy more than I came there for.
What happens, I think, is that when people see other people buying a lot of something during some unusual circumstance they start thinking that they will need that thing, too, and there won't be enough of it. So they buy more, which creates a shortage, which makes even more people panic buy and it all snowballs. Also, there are the special assholes who are buying things like TP and hand sanitizer in huge quantities so they can sell it at a profit. Amazon and some other online sellers have started shutting these dbags down, fortunately.
The paper product companies are making more TP and the stores will be restocked - I hope before too much longer. I hope by then the panic buying will have subsided. People can be stupid dicks sometimes, and it really comes out when they're scared.

Seriously, how can anyone other than a minuscule fringe of idiots still support this fraud #IPOTUS?
...and it's not just politics. The stupid are everywhere. No wonder we're where we are in world-wide academic ratings.
And we're not the brave anymore either. We've become a nation of followers.

(18,563 posts)There is another thread where people are patting themselves on the back for stocking up.
It is said there that it is just the MAGAs who listened to Trump that are now flooding the stores as they realize it is a crisis. Those are the ones having trouble finding products because the smart non-MAGAs foresaw the crisis and bought in advance.
So now those bad people?

(18,563 posts)It doesn't matter if it is toilet paper, rice, beans, pet food or whatever, if a person is buying it in bulk during a crisis when demand is high they are potentially depriving the person who cannot afford to do the same and must purchase the item at time of need.
SWBTATTReg
(22,100 posts)very often (lack of transportation), so when we did go to town, we've always stocked up. Basically enough to last us until the next trip to the store (which would happen in the next month or so). Of course, we would always have the garden and canning, hunting, etc. going on too. This was the mentality of how we grew up. Still ingrained.

They built their stockpiles during periods of low demand. They already have the items they need and are not depriving anyone during the crisis time.

(22,100 posts)over the years, in always having a stocked pantry. At least I don't stock a freezer worth of stuff like I used to. It would take literally years for two people to go through the contents of a midsized freezer.
Too many times I've seen people loose a whole freezer's (a midsize one) worth of frozen goods because either the power went out, or the freezer went out, or they had to use up the stuff in the freezer before freezer burn or something similar would happen. That's why when my sister and her husband offer me a 1/2 beef (they take the other half, he raises), I say 'thanks, but noooo!'. Way too much. My mom when she took the 1/2 beef, was later always trying to give away portions of the beef still left in her freezer from last year.
At least a couple of friends of mine actually got into the habit too of stocking up too, but mostly because they hated going shopping. What's the motto of the Scouts? Always be prepared?
Take care and be safe!

(4,379 posts)The problem is some people are buying enough toilet paper to last for a year or more. It's fucking selfish and stupid.

(18,748 posts)a 12-pack of toilet paper in the store? I saw it on YouTube. A much younger woman pushing a FULL cart of toilet paper passed by, and as she did, tried to wrest it from the old woman's hands.
All the bystanders jumped in to help the old woman, thankfully.
I know what you mean. People can be so disgusting.
