This is where it gets worse -- If Trump Administration Don't fix this ASAP....

So, here we go. We need to relink this Twitter link again:

Which is enough to make anyone looking at this down right pissed.

However....this is where the above gets worse 10 times fast. The overseas International American Travelers are LIKELY coming into the following airports:

If this scene is REPEATED at each of these airports tomorrow -- we have a HUGE issue. Real HUGE!

with symptoms in the next few weeks. And they can all trace it back to standing in line at the airport.

By then, how many more people will they have infected? Here comes our Italy moment.

Did I do this yet?

DTW (Detroit Metro Airport) is less than 20 miles from us. It is in the center of most of the population of Michigan (over 3 million people). If this is what this airport looks like and DTW is a International Airport too...OMG!!!

And any other International Airport surrounding major cities hubs. OMG!!!!

This is a Straight Up CRISIS!!!

Is there no one in the administration with a functioning brain? Not one single person? And are they all absolute cowards?

It is time for every single person to go stand in front of trump and tell him FUCK YOU, and turn around and go do their jobs. The jobs that lead to protecting Americans from things like pandemics.

I know I'm speaking to the choir here. I need to say this out loud. What the hell do we have to do to get our government to protect us? We can't wait until November to vote them out. We need this to happen now. We needed it to happen in January.

Flight attendants already have to perform all sorts of mandatory preflight and other checks and file paperwork certifying completion of procedures.

For this, they just need new "people check" procedures and require certification of the attendant performing and one who witnesses to confirm procedures are followed. And they need procedures for how to handle anyone who doesn't "pass" screening.

Or, if "in flight" screening is impossible, at least avoid herding people together like cattle by keeping them on the planes until you are ready to screen and screen as they deplane?

That would still seriously suck -- if you screen as 200 or so passengers disembark at a minute per, that's 3.5 hours -- but at least the process limits exposure to the people you've already been exposed to.

Airlines would scream bloody murder about having planes tied up, but that would at least get DT's attention. The only entities he gives a shit about are corporate entities.

Not sure how this waiting in line is all that different from what they already were doing before.

Airports aren't designed to screen huge crowds of people on their way OUT, that's the problem I suspect.

Could also be argued that funneling like this helps NOT spread the illness as presumably those traveling to other destinations all over the US to finish their journey will end up not being able to get on a plane and go (and spread it more widely).

I think there's no easy answers here.

To whit, the guidance that travelers were not receiving in the days before Friday.

That was not in relation to today's CF at the 13 airports.

Look, if we're going to screen everyone coming in, we'd be doing so at somewhere between 1 airport and 26 airports in the USA.

Doing so at roughly 1/2 of them, almost entirely the biggest airports, probably makes as much sense as doing it at all 26 airports, even if it means longer lines to get through the process.

However my saying that IS contingent on the idea that those who are failing the tests aren't being allowed to get on planes to finish their journey to a different part of the US. That the funneling is a form of containment, IOW.

Otherwise, yeah, this is stupid.

That's a separate issue. YES they should be being told about the 14 days. I'm not arguing with Susan Rice on this.

At hand though in the OP is the problem of funneling causing backups so that people can be screened.

It can be argued that AS LONG AS you aren't allowed to proceed to your destination if you fail the screening, then the practice makes some sense, even if it does have some negative consequences as well. You're limiting how many cities in the US any sick people are going to get to, basically.

What would've made the most sense IMHO is basically to process 1 plane full of passengers at a time, so as to stage the crowd properly. That way each person is mostly only exposed to the same people they've already been exposed to on the flight, AND you have a place to friggin sit.

Better yet, stupid trump should've never ordered these people home like this while preaching social distancing, then not having testing arrangements and quarantining in place.

Just a total fuck up again by the whole inept admin. Can anyone think ahead at all? Such a logjam should've been anticipated and thus avoided.

1) Go home!

The vast majority of these people are returning US travelers. They're trying to go home, and they're going to be shopping next to you and touching that apple in the grocery store right before you pick it up for your elderly parents!. How is basic public health a partisan issue now?

2) A little inconvenience is a small price to pay for safety!

The supposed safety created by the screenings is being undermined by the crowd formation at the screening gate. How is this hard to understand? The same mechanism that these people see as protection is actually increasing the risk. It actually couldn't be designed to be more incompetent and self-defeating. Books will be written about this shit.

I guess people who had reserved convenient direct flights to their nearest airport now are all being flown to one of these large hubs first for long lines to be screened and then having to wait in crowded places for their connecting flights for additional exposure on those flights.

Also, what happens to those with symptoms? I guess they held in separate areas for indefinite separation and not allowed to go home???

I don't know either way but it seems possible and logical that's how they'd do it.

Speaking of their planes waiting ... this whole CF could've been avoided by keeping people on the planes and staging the screenings ... at least then they have a place to sit & are only in contact w/the people they've already been in contact with for hours.

This is also well beyond any worst case scenario I could have even imagined. Even the bumbling idiots in charge in disaster movies have worlds better planning skills.

* This mass of travelers probably should not have traveled at all, beginning back in December. By now, there should be little international or domestic travel, if any and only that which is absolutely necessary.

The whole damn planet has been in a three-month mass denial.....because freedom.

* Accepting the situation as it is, the volume of daily returnees should have been metered in a way that allows complete and thorough screening with safe distances between people.

But that would require complete coordination between governments, something the Trump administration is allergic to......because America.

Here's the worst of it all:

* WHO and the CDC has made it very clear that people harboring the coronavirus are most contagious before they show any symptoms of being sick. The temperature checks are rife with inaccuracies and of little value other than to cull out those who may need to be immediately quarantined.

I'm very grateful to be retired and no longer have to travel. My sincere thoughts go out to those that do.
