...those are computer generated, and there is very likely VPN access for a "work from home" capability.
Most accountants in large firms don't actually need to be there every day.

I've approved payroll from a beach, more than once! Remote punch in and out for hourly employees, everything automated.

...companies of any size, instead of big, or large.
It is, after all, 2020. Tons of companies have long ago adopted remote access.

If that many people are too sick at once and no one can handle payroll, we probably have bigger problems like the power grid shutting down and water treatment plants failing.

This is not the apocalypse.

This will impact a very small segment of our work force. Not to minimize the impact to these folks, but most payroll is processed via web-based platforms these days.

As long as three specific people at my company (ages 24, 51, and 59) are not all incapacitated at the same time, our employees will continue to get paid as long as we have access to the Internet. I have run payroll from my phone half way around the world from my HQ before.

We setup notebooks and VPN connections for key staff members.

Our banking is all done on-line and our checks are direct deposit.

One staff member will make a brief trip to the office to print deposit advice forms and a few actual checks.

With so many of our services moved into "the cloud" we are actually in pretty good shape for remote work.

I work in the accounting department at a medium to large corporation. We only have one person who doesn't have a laptop already, but she will be getting one this week so that enables the whole department to be able to work from home. Payroll department has had that capability for quite a while now. There were meetings last week, lots of them; this is being taken very seriously. My office is a giant open cube farm. And the factories and warehouses, well they're wide open too.

Solidarity forever.
