Isolation in America

I'm not optimistic after a few days of reading various posts on here. I think there is both over and under reaction to steps that should be taken or how it would work here. Hand washing, working from home, school closings, social distancing may not work. If not, then what? Do we tell everyone to stay inside and close everything for rest of year? Most of our infection clusters are in several larger metropolitan areas. Should those places be isolated and locked down now? These predictions aside, what makes us think it can even be slowed and still not simply work it's way through the population, kill lots of people and then simply be a flu like virus we have to deal with indefinitely- even after a vaccine. I'm surprised people, with means, are not fleeing hotspots like NYC and Seattle into middle America where population density is sparce. I'm not in panic mode, take proper precautions and follow my state health directives but I'm not sure I have faith in even those. The economy will be finished for years to come. When older people, especially, are able to come out of thier homes and move freely they may have nothing left financially. Self isolation while watching your nest eggs evaporate may to much to bear for some

Stretch out the length of time people get infected so the healthcare system doesn't get overwhelmed.

Days after playing Sixers in Philly, Detroit Pistons’ Christian Wood reportedly tests positive for coronavirus

The Athletic reported Saturday night that Detroit Pistons forward-center Christian Wood has tested positive for coronavirus. Wood and the Pistons played against the 76ers on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Shortly after the Sixers’ 124-106 win, the NBA suspended the season.

Reached Saturday evening, a Sixers official declined comment. A Sixers official said Thursday that the team was trying to arrange for players and staff to receive COVID-19 testing.

Wood played 38 minutes, 58 seconds against the Sixers and had 32 points and seven rebounds.

Last I checked, Detroit was in the Midwest (although obviously a larger population than rural areas of the MW). But this guy played one of the last games played before the NBA shutdown and the Wells Fargo Center looked like this at the time (holds 20,000) -



I think the thing to think about is that there will always be the one like you see in the movies, who (often arrogantly and irresponsibly) mocks and bucks the advice and ends up making it worse for those who are trying to do the right thing and even gets eaten by the shark. We just saw that last week, resulting in the article I posted.



Even if the level of concern being broadcast manages to significantly REDUCE the number of people out there interacting, that is still helpful for those who have to be out there or choose to be.
