The opposite of Drump
A story from when I was in the service.
When I was in an infantry battalion in Germany in the late 70s it was well known our forces were so small we stood little chance against a Warsaw Pact invasion. We understood we were a tripwire/die in place force. That was our mission.
We had a Brigade Commander come in talk to our battalion once. His speech resonates with me today, 40 years later. He commanded the room by stating he understood what we were up against, that he would be there with us, and would get every resource he could lay his hands on to support us. He knew the situation, brought both expertise and empathy, which solidified our resolve to complete our mission no matter the odds.
That was a potential war that never happened. We are now in war, but with Caligula as leader who would rather be playing golf than leading the nation.
