told me an hour ago that this is being over hyped and "there aren't that many deaths really" and he is a teacher and a Dem!

He knows I am at risk and self quarantining and he said that to ME. I have lost most of the respect I had for him.

It has to hit people directly sometimes. In the meantime they infect everyone else. Irresponsible and selfish are the words that best describe them.

and they have slightly MORE of the contagious virus "stuff" in their bodies than those who show symptoms. I think that he has to see someone drop dead on the sidewalk in front of him for it to be "really serious". Some people have to be hit over the head a couple of times before they wake up and smell the coffee. And he is smart, reads real info and not RW crap.

If I see him I'd show him the chart (I save this info for my own reference) but I am not going near him in the future since I do not want to catch something he could be carrying.

I suspect it's much higher when you consider how contagious it's supposed to be. I guess we'll never know for sure.

If we don't have an accurate denominator we will get incorrect rates of deaths and recoveries. And too little is known about this infection and how it behaves to make accurate assumptions about the rates.

.... deaths counted as regular flu or other causes but were really Coronavirus. Maybe why trDump played peek a boo about the test. The count slipped by unnoticed and he figured he could just pass them off as regular deaths. Just as long as he does not tarnish his god given rights to a second term to grift to his hearts content - he could really care less about anything else.

Now that they can no longer pretend it doesn't exist by suppressing testing, they have to preemptively shift the blame by appealing to racism and xenophobia.

Trump is objectively mentally ill and a sociopath, but he has remarkably accurate authoritarian instincts.

becomes incredibly high.

Of course, with the best of intentions, counting the actual cases seems difficult as something like 80% of those infected have few or no symptoms. Which in a way, is good news, as it means a lot of people are infected, and the deaths really are a small fraction of all infected.

Went from "nothing to see here" to people dropping like flies in a week. And suddenly, it's "Yeah, we got it too."

At least here, we have some remnants of that "best medical system in the world" keeping more people alive.

I think the death rate is still going to be a lot higher than regular influenza. Covid 19 is spreading much more quickly than covid sars 1 and mers. Due to being infectious before symptoms appear and because of China’s government trying to cover it up it is much worse because it wasn’t contained properly to start with.
