Is it true that we could be in this until July and August?

I honestly don't trust a single that comes out of the Orange Anus, but this is so particularly chilling and it have a spiraling effect on the long term economy. I really hope it isn't true. I hope we're out of this as soon as possible.

I've heard 2 years going around in terms of really being done with this from a health perspective and economically.

August is a pie in the Sky dream. At best everything changes until the holidays.

Other events I had in the next couple months - gone.

Remember when we used to be able to do things? I miss those times.

The side effect of "flattening the curve" is that it makes this pandemic last much longer than it would normally.

BTW, for those hoping the summer season will lessen the pandemic... so far the evidence points to "nope"

Anyway, we NEED to extend the pandemic as much as possible so that those with serious infections that require care in hospitals have the best chance of survival.

The theory is... eventually we are all going to get this... if we spread it out over a very long period of time, fewer of us will die from it. If we simply go on about our business, we will still all get infected... probably within the next month... and the very sick will die from lack of hospitals and doctors and, especially, ventilators.

OTOH, there is still hope for a treatment or vaccine in the next 6 months or so.

so extending this might mean way fewer people get sick (if we find a treatment or vaccine between now then then).

Too many variables too many unknowns. It could even be shorter than expected. No way to know.

1. The earliest time-frame for a vaccine I have seen is the german company CureVac. They expect the end of clinical trials by June/July, followed by official approval.

2. In any case, there will be less coronavirus-cases in summer, because summer has more sunlight and viruses die rather easily when exposed to UV-light. Viruses don't survive as long in the wild when there is ample sunlight.

3. Some expert told the Trump-administration that it could take in total up to 12-18 months to find a vaccine.

It depends on what you mean by last. The reality is that the infections will continue for months if not into next year. But I don't believe that this country is capable of sustaining severe economic isolation for very many months. I think probably the longest that this can go on is three to six weeks before basically the economy throws up it's hands and says nope you're going to get sick.
