He said one of the medications, given to some of the first people to test positive for COVID-19 in Australia, had already resulted in disappearance of the virus and complete recovery from the infection.
Prof Paterson, who is also an infectious disease physician at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital, said it wasnt a stretch to label the drugs a treatment or a cure.
Its a potentially effective treatment, he said.
Please please please let this be true

(29,199 posts)at best it would be stated as "we have a potential treatment that shows promise of limiting viral activity in a labratory setting and we have not started testing on humans yet"

(8,144 posts)they did say the virus disappeared in the test tube and that patients had completely recovered.

(25,183 posts)that a scientist said exactly that, and a reporter heard the word "cure".
All my adult life, I've looked at news stories about stuff that I knew a LOT about, and found them inaccurate. It makes me wonder about stories that I read where I don't know much at all about the subject. I was down with the concept of "fake news" before it became a Trumpian buzz phrase.

(7,294 posts)Presumably, these are compounds from a library of approved drugs, so have already been safety vetted.
So name them.
Oh wait, nevermind, there's money to be made, my bad.

(6,513 posts)They said they were starting nationwide trials, but then they said they had already tested it on live patients. Seems like the trials already started.
I don't mind, it's just that I like accuracy. I guess they could have seen it in the test tube, given it to a few patients, then saw them get well, so now they will treat many more patients.
I hope to G-d it works. Oz is a special place. Trump, let's start getting those drugs stock piled, just in case...
