The coronavirus pandemic was not entirely unforeseeable.

I know it seems like it came up suddenly, but -

There have been viruses on the horizon as long as we've known what viruses are. We've known the death and destruction of infectious diseases for at least a century. We know that some diseases are highly contagious.

We know that the world is more connected than its ever been. News travels instantly, and people travel all over the globe. Not just a few people but lots and lots of people.

The idea that developed countries could not anticipate this possibility simply is not plausible. Its unfortunate that being ready with a plan for something like this depends on who is in the oval office.

When a narcissist gets into power and decides being prepared for an epidemic is not important, the price will be measured in human lives.

This WAS NOT "unprecedented" and it is false that "no one could see this coming"...

He was left the infrastructure to rapidly respond WITH EXPERTS to exactly this kind of situation and he FUCKING CHOSE to cut that entire structure loose out of racism and spite and being the small 'man' that he is.

The deaths of how ever many Americans this costs are on his head forever.

We knew it could happen, and Bush knew Bin Laden was determined to strike inside the US.

My immune and pulmonary condition puts me at risk from standard influenza. That means I pay attention to outbreaks.

I'm a layperson, not a trained professional. I have no access to special knowledge. It's not my job to keep up with this stuff. Yet I was still able to see this danger when it ran through central China. I knew in today's world, it had the ability to spread rapidly.

Before mid January, I was waiting for the first American cases to crop up. It didn't take long.
