I appreciate this post.

When the s**t hit the fan, numerous times over my 35 year career...

My colleagues and I had the unpleasant task of going in to bad situations knowing we were going to get laid off after putting in the crisis hours.

When this is over we need to reflect on what we have to do as a society to mitigate these circumstances.

Apart from our firefighters, law enforcement etc....there are thousands of people who have to go to work to keep the system going...truck drivers, bus drivers, power company workers, water and sewer employees, grocery clerks etc.

When the dust settles I expect and demand that our representatives at all levels of government get to work on this.

Rant over

8. Not to minimize but, us IT people have been doing double and triple time, to get people home access

We have spent the majority of our days since last week making it possible for people to work from home. Access so your HR person can run payroll and send out direct deposit or checks. Access so people can dispatch trucks and workers who can still work.

Thank your local geek/nerd too.

You are married to a smart man. You might just have to keep him.

I work for a Managed Service Provider. We are the 3rd party IT for a lot of small and medium businesses. We've been implementing tools and infrastructure for a "work from anywhere" philosophy for our customers for a while now. Some of them are just now beginning to see why they need it. They're the ones who are behind the curve. The ones who embraced it when we pitched it are all good.

This sounds belittling to the people who have to quarentine. I say this as someone who will be out there and at high-risk of exposure.
