Do we relax DOT medical card regs to get all the fat guys back driving trucks temporarily?

I think quite a few lost jobs over the recent regulations for sleep apnea. Maybe allow them to be hired to drive some of the shorter shuttle type runs. If other travel is greatly reduced anyway, it wouldn't be as much of a risk.

As a CDL holder myself who also has sleep apnea, its bad enough out there as it is. We don't need more people who didn't get enough sleep last night, driving down the road today.

I'll pass, thanks.

My employer screens all new employees for sleep apnea, paying for a sleep study if so needed. If sleep apnea is diagnosed, a CPAP machine is provided (though there is a cost sharing in purchasing said CPAP machine through payroll deduction).

If it is a case of trying to get drivers to haul stuff during this pandemic, I don't think that there's a shortage of drivers nor tractor power... I haul sheet glass, other people in the company I work for haul stuff on flatbed trailers, some haul boats. Some in the flatbed fleet have been known to pull the occasional trailer for Amazon but the company I work for works to get long term contracts for cargo, even dedicating to a particular company (e.g. some work for a Home Depot contract hauling lumber, others do lumber for Lowe's. ).

Driving tired is no joke. I refuse to do it and my manager is 110% behind me in that regard - just as long as freight gets there on time (or delays are properly communicated).
