the graphs on these 2 sites should wake anyone up who thinks this is a big nothingburger

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Total cases and total deaths are going near vertical since around March 7

https://coronavirus.1point3acres.com/en

US cases on this link show a real slope change just a few days ago - around March 12.

And we are barely beginning testing in any significant level.

Also - and this is possibly a sign of more testing, more infections, or both - the exponential nature of the increases is evident.

numbers of new cases in the US over the last week

March 9 - 178
March 10 - 290
March 11 - 247
March 12 - 425
March 13 - 567
March 14 - 723
March 15 - 779
March 16 - 899 (so far - three hours yet)

I don't scare easily and tend to be an optimist. But in my 64 years, few things leap out of me as totally life changing for so many as this.

That's what an exponential curve looks like. Why understanding math is important. Phoenix61 Mar 2020 #2
yes indeed. that's going to be a hard curve to flatten, esp when so many are still so flippant about NRaleighLiberal Mar 2020 #3
US one isn't even valid due to lack of tests SiliconValley_Dem Mar 2020 #4
absolutely - that's why we have that false low number of cases per million. NRaleighLiberal Mar 2020 #5
