"Breath of Life" Kundalini yoga breathing technique.

I learned about this many years ago as a young hippie.
Basically it is taking a very deep breath and pushing it out slowly
with your core, taking two or three times as long to exhale as it did
to inhale. You need to push the air out with your muscles, hard and slow.
Repeat several times. It always helps me clear my lungs and loosens
any phlegm. Even now I try to do this at least once a day.

Put your left thumb on your left nostril, put the next 2 fingers by your 3rd eye and bend over the last 2 to hold your right nostril shut. Move your thumb away and take in a breath for a slow count to 4, put your thumb back over your nose and hold for a count of 8. Release and breathe in for 8 seconds. Leaving your thumb on your left nostril, use your last 2 fingers to hold shut the right nostril while you hold your breath for 8 seconds, release and continue to alternate. Think it's the extra H2O plus the focus of keeping track of the count, but it is definitely helpful to me. Hope others find it useful too.

It is very soothing and relaxes your mind, so I could see it being useful for that too. Thanks, I will give that a try.

I have mild asthma, a somewhat higher than I would like, RV [residual volume] - so the Kundalini emphasis seems to work so far.

[Also the base Chakra I tend to favor ]

Altered States of Consciousness. One class they had an older man who cam in to talk about Kundalini Yoga. He appeared to be rather conservative and a local of the Medford/Sommerville area. He came to the practice because of pain with angina, and it was this practice that gave him peace - and it was more than just physical peace. I remember the class to this day, well over 40 years ago. Thanks for the reminder.
