Where have you been today?

Wondering where I am on the DU bell curve of curtailed social activity.

I walked the dog;
I went to the library to vote;
I went to a bank;
I went to a sporting goods store;
Now I'm at my work.

Practiced social distancing and sanitary precautions. Wore disposable gloves in all public places.

Ours died right around Christmas and the older kids in the house (19, 26 and 57) are still going through withdrawal. If I have to be cooped up with them for a few weeks, we have 3 TVs and darnit we'll get that 3rd system replaced!

But it was her first time and technical difficulties so she is trying again Thursday. So i spent almost 30 min staring at blank screen saying will start soon!

Now I am housecleaning as my cousin is stopping by on way to CA, she informed me she is healthy and has been housesitting for her friend and been alone past month with groceries delivered. So i feel safe welcoming her. She had to do that because she lives in Seattle. She is going down to CA to take care and cook for her brother that normally eats out every night. They are in late 60’s. And both would have problems if they got it.

Planning to get take out pizza tonight instead of going to irish pub, this is first time in 20 years, i am almost all irish and love the holiday.

Then to ACE Hardware to buy dog food, yes, our local ACE sells dog food and it was plentiful. Then I went to Fry's aka Kroger got there just before 8:00 and there were already a lot of people and a lot of empty shelves as well. Came home and took my dog for a walk. Got back home and put my two desert tortoises, who just recently came out of hibernation outside in their habitat. Tomorrow we're expecting much cooler weather and rain so the torts will be staying inside in their terrarium. Another month or so and they will stay outside day and night.

We were going to go home, unload and head out to the meat market we like, when we just decided to go to the market 1st, then home. Uhm yeah. Good thing we went then. The place was packed, which it never is during the day. But I did get 5# of hamburger and 3 chix breasts. My guess is they will be closing soon, unless they get some stock in. Their frozen section was almost empty. They did have alligator meat left. Wonder why.

If they were to remain open, I'd go every few days to swim laps. But, I think they're going to be forced to close by the city.

I went out for a little while to make some Vitamin D and get some fallen tree parts into the yard waste pile, as it's pick-up day. Wanted to be out a little longer, but the pollen is horrendous right now. Was going to go back out for a little while longer, but it's clouding up. Hope it rains.

That was before the shelter at home stuff took effect. So I talk to my cat and dog, yell at Trump whenever he's on my TV, and phone my relatives every few days to check in. I'm not feeling lonely or claustrophobic, just a little bored. I have plenty of things to do, but I guess I'm just not in the mood.

I have to water plants and finish some housekeeping, and I want to take a walk later since I didn't get to the gym today and won't be going any time soon. Somewhere I have some Tai Chi DVDs I need to find and dust off. I've started reading the Poetic Edda. Settling in with a book and letting the Monterey Bay Aquarium Moon Jellies float around in the background sounds like a recipe for staying calm. Later I'm going to be making a big pot of something to divide into portions to freeze for later meals. It's a balancing act between being productive and staying relaxed. The oddest part is practicing not feeling guilty about staying home.

68. Worked from home, as instructed by our company.

Did not leave the apartment all day. I have everything I need for now. I will probably need to go out just for a walk by the end of the week just so I don't go stir-crazy, but my neighborhood doesn't have a lot of car or foot traffic so it should be fine.

Will try to order more food and supplies, but if they are still out of TP and other cleaning/household products, I may have to pop into one of the smaller, but expensive, markets just to get enough to tide me over until supplies are replenished at the bigger retailers.

71. Dropped off ballot petition sheets to a location. . .
Tue Mar 17, 2020, 05:03 PM
Mar 2020

. . .outside the "containment zone" in my neck of the woods.

Under ordinary circumstances, we district leaders would have done so on March 29. However, this past weekend we received an executive order from Governor Cuomo ending all ballot petitioning at 5 pm March 17. The order reduced the number of signatures needed on each petition. Since I had surpassed the quotas on March 15, this was no problem.

Then, I was at my mother's house 5 miles from my home to get her recyclables to the curb and to pick up a birthday package to send by mail to her youngest great-grand-son (my youngest grand-nephew). We would have had a family birthday party this coming Saturday involving me, my nephew, and his two sons, all born in the month of March. However, due to the current situation, we made the wise decision to cancel it.

Then I stopped by the Trader Joe's in town for a few items. No crowd, but obviously some shelves were bare.

So now I'm back home.

Of course, the usual precautions, sanitary and otherwise were practiced.

At my mother's, we spoke at a distance, and we parted with gestures; she with the Namaste, I with the universal sign language for "I Love You"

74. I stayed in my apartment building all day
Tue Mar 17, 2020, 09:06 PM
Mar 2020

I didn't even go outside to get fresh air.

The community room in my building is now closed to gatherings of more than 10 people, so the Canasta Club (5 of us total, 1 felt uncomfortable) played our Tuesday afternoon canasta game, making sure we sat 6 feet apart from one another.

Exercised at home using resistance tubes.

I washed my hands so frequently my skin ended up drying to the point of redness and irritation.

We have gone remote only for most people. Unless you are on a short list of essential personal, you work from home. That's a good thing.

There were some things I needed, but some they were out of. The store was crowded but not so much that people were getting too close together. I didn't wear gloves, but did wash my hands halfway through shopping, as well as before going and after coming back.

Watching the trusses being lifted into place was cool - we'll have our new roof by the end of the week!

come in for a test. They had me wait in the car and came out and got me. I had to put on a mask. The nurse had gloves and a mask and she told me not to touch anything. I went into the exam room and the doctor did 3 swabs, the flu swabs are awful. The doctor put the swabs way up inside my nose, it seemed like she was trying to reach my brain.

Mr. Retrograde was supposed to have jury duty this week, but the courts are closed: we're in one of the counties with the mandatory shelter-in-place rule.

Did my taxes online, washed a load of laundry. I’m 60+ with type 2 diabetes, so I’m self-isolating as much as possible. I’m going to do one “job” per day to keep me somewhat busy and productive. Today was taxes, tomorrow I’m cleaning and organizing the pantry.

Very few people in the parking lot or store. Otherwise, that's the only trip out in two days.

We have one more trip planned this week - doctor visit and to pick up prescriptions.

We have disposable gloves, and a "lawn & garden" mask. We have soap, and a little bit of sanitizer.

Watched tv, read, fed my indoor and outdoor kitties, played with kitties. Worried about so many things like will I be able to get the meat to make their food. Cancelled my dental, office was closed, no reply. More phone calls. Cleaned up after everyone as usual, took mail in, went for a walk, cleaned a lot, tons of laundry. Set up a new touch-less foam soap dispenser. I haven't been able to get my usual gel soap, although today it was in stock at amazon, so I ordered it there, but it wont get here till April. I ordered another gel soap which isn’t here yet. The foam soap smells bad and doesn't lather well. I am exhausted. Washed and sanitized my hands a gazillion times. Went for a walk and fell asleep after dinner. Had numerous health events to deal with as usual.

Later I have to figure out the online teaching platform more, it will start next week. I went to a training last week. I still have to let my students know we will have online virtual classes, I know many wont do it, I am worried about this and if I can get this to work.

The news is grim, I am wondering what happens if we have an emergency non covid and they are so overwhelmed, will we be turned away? And die....I am seriously thinking to tell my family it is time to go back to Canada asap. Even though it is not something I want to do.

Walked my dog. Went for a run in the woods. Then I popped in to the pub on the corner to say goodbye to the bartender. There were three of us in there sitting as far apart as we could. The pub had just opened and smelled of disinfectant. I had a Guinness and left.

I’m an outgoing introvert. This is going to be rough.

DH has to work, seems like auto repair is an essential service and he runs a warehouse that supplies parts to garages. Has a small staff and no contact with the public. They are being very careful with packages and keeping their distance. He said business is up as everybody’s getting their cars fixed ahead of when they won’t be able to.
I am retired, have a PT job I do from home anyway and normally watch my 3 grandkids all day. Daughter is working from home. Son-in-law currently taking some time off to help with kids. He works for a drywall contractor who sends them all over the place mainly apartment complexes and retirement communities, and he’s scared of bringing something home. Hoping the governor makes them close so he can collect unemployment.

107. Today, so far, nowhere but will be going for MRI this afternoon.
Wed Mar 18, 2020, 10:34 AM
Mar 2020

I really need this MRI, my neck & lower back hurt and I'm having some possibly related issues that could be a big deal? This is a small place, so I might have to wait outside for social distancing purposes. I am also still getting therapy 2x week, but this is a small single provider office and there's never been more than 1 person there and I know they are religious about their disinfection process. It's a bit of a risk, but pretty small and it helps me so much with my pain & stiffness I really would hate to give it up.

We have groceries for several weeks, sufficient pet food for a month and a months' supply of medicine so not going to stores now. We did get take out from our fave Mexican restaurant yesterday and my husband is still going to his part time job. He's a shuttle driver, so is just having people move near the back and keep at least 6" apart. Our son comes over once a week and we are not touching now and are keeping our distance.

My husband and I started a new puzzle and finished our latest Amazon treasure, Hunters. Might I add, what a great show! Tonight we will look for a new show to stream. Might see about ordering another puzzle for the upcoming weeks.
