Something Is Really Starting To Disturb Me About What We're Being Told.....

We are self-isolating. Told to stay home for 15 days yesterday - 14 days today. Told not to panic buy in the stores. There's plenty for everyone.

And then we're told things are going to get worse before they get better. We can expect a peak - maybe in about 45 days.

So if we went out and bought enough food and supplies for 15 days - and maybe a little over - and things are going to get worse (i.e., now NYC is told be ready for shelter in place).

We're going to be hurting for food and supplies after this 15 day period ends. That is when the panic will really set in. Unfortunately - people will defy sheltering orders and will go looking for food and supplies and more will spread and contract the virus.

Seems to me they should be telling us the truth now - before it's too late.

Am I reading this situation right?

I went to Walmart yesterday (Monday), and after the weekend's insanity of combat shopping there was nearly no one in the store. The shelves were mostly bare, but they had restocked much of what I hadn't been able to get on Sunday -- including coffee ice cream to keep my wife happy -- so I'm a content little clam. We have five supermarkets here (small town) plus some dollar stores which carry food items. I figure that now that we have our first two weeks covered -- being in Southern California and living 15 miles from the San Andreas fault we have an earthquake kit -- adding additional supplies on an as-available basis will help us avoid any repeat of this past weekend.

If you don't know, the CDC website has a section on Preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse which is a good guide to how to get ready for most disasters. Unfortunately, a "Donald Trump presidency catastrophe" is not one of them.

You can go out for food shopping, doctor visits, emergency events, etc.
It even allows jogging or walking as long as you keep your distance.

If everyone buys 45 days of food, I expect the fear would be some would not be able to get food that they can or would like to eat.

Thus the 15 day or shorter than 45 day increments.

They will continue to allow visits to pharmacy and grocery stores - they have to.

They don't have everything, and they are limiting purchases of some items, but the shelves aren't bare.

1. I have no place to store 45 days of food. Refrigerator/Freezer and cabinets are full now.

2. I can't afford to buy 45 days of food.

3. Given that there will be more people identified as having the virus and more deaths - do I really want to go out in that environment and shop?

My son has lived primarily in China the past 11+ years, lives here now. In daily contact with business associates and friends in Guangzhou (15mil+). He told me yesterday that his friend sent him videos of the busiest train stations during peak hours - practically no one there vs the normal thousands upon thousands. The market centers, think LA or NY garment districts on massive amounts of steroids, where a bazillion factories display their wholesale wares to the buying world - practically vacant. I’ve been there with him and it was shoulder to shoulder, again - thousands and thousands of people.

My point? China has been SERIOUS about this a long time - we’ve got goobers n gomers treating it like a hoax - we have no concept of what is coming.

We became good friends with a Chinese family. He continues to tell me not to leave the house without a mask. At this point I am not leaving the house as husband is very high risk. Not letting anyone in the house except my sister who has promised to isolate herself 100 percent except co I got to spend time with us.

do not prohibit people from going to the grocery store. That is one of only 2 places you are allowed to go under these orders.

are doing so in anticipation of a breakdown in supply, transportation and local workers who can run those stores. It's wise to prepare for that possibility because it's a very plausible expectation. We have time and restocking is still happening, but be prepared for a month from now give or take.

Every 15 days that people stay home is 15 days that they are neither exposed to nor spreading COVID-19. Sure, people are going to have to go out from time to time, but the less they go out, the better.

based on what we've been told. SMH. We're all about to lose quite a bit of weight. I'm exhausted and don't feel like going back to the store.
