Coronavirus crisis 'worse than 9/11' for airlines, says US treasury secretary Mnuchin

The coronavirus has been called "worse than 9/11" for the airline industry by US Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Mr Mnuchin spoke about the economic impact Covid-19 has on the airline industry, which has significantly reduced both domestic and international flights as people are implored to stay home.

He called the outbreak "worse than 9/11" for the industry.

Wish I could find him credible, however...

I was working for an airline on 9/11 and I saw how things went to hell in a hurry. It's already obvious that this will be much worse.

The very worst it got during the 30s was 24.9% in 1933 when the banking collapse hit right before FDR's inauguration.

From 1930 through 1940, it ranged from 8.7% to its all-time high in 1933 to 14.6% by 1940 with four years above 15% and four years above 20%.

no planes crashed due to covid19
<3000 dead due to Sept 11 terrorists attack
>6000 infected here in US due to covid19 as of today

so sure, it's worse in $$ loss, but not in human life loss
Mnunchkin needs to pull his pointy head out of fatnixon's lardass
and ask him why that is...

f'n toadie

sorry, my fingers got ahead of my head, meant infected, not dead...
but the number of dead will rise exponentially, as has been predicted

9/11 planes were grounded for a week. The air got clean.

Less flights and fill them up with people or cargo.

don't fly empty planes!

and no corporation needs FEDERAL WELFARE, those billions are Americans federal money-no free money for corporations. They should be able to survive a turn down in business for many months.

The entire hospitality industry just vanished overnight.

Restaurants and theaters are following suit.

Then the chain effect starts. How many gas stations are gonna make money when no one leaves their home except for groceries? Etc...
