During the transition, Trump cabinet officials and other aides were given a three hour brief and a hypothetical exercise in responding to a global epidemic.
Detailed briefing books were prepared by Obama administration officials for scenarios like this and others. They were later found in the trash.
As Politico reports, incoming Trump administration officials gave Obama officials a big meh. Consequently, coupled with the tremendous turnover during the tumultuous Trumps presidency, the U.S. was unprepared, by choice, to to meet the challenge of this very real global epidemic that has beleaguered America.
Susan Rice had this to say about this January 2017 meeting and the reasons we now find ourselves facing likely mass infection in the U.S.

(11,141 posts)planning. And yes, the trump transition team had no interest whatsoever. They thought they knew it all and could learn nothing from President Obama and his competent administration. At one planned briefing no-one from the trump transition team even showed up! This whole book is spot on relevant to what we are going through today. I highly recommend it.

Problem is: This is the department in charge of atomic energy and disposal of its waste.
Roger Waters must have had the Trump transition team in mind when he wrote,

(11,885 posts)Because he knows it was a screw up from the start , and he's now desperately trying to spin it as a perfect response, the complete opposite of the truth. His response and inaction , and by firing those who could have prevented this from being as bad, and claiming he did great is a sign of he knows he's failing badly, and is now lost. trump is a complete failure , and when he speaks he exposes himself even more because of his constant lying to the people on this. The gop had their chance to oust him , and I'd bet many now wish they had removed him. He was warned long ago of the threats and the spreading of it in China and did nothing , and he wants people to believe his lies his response was great, when it was clearly horrific , and it exposes his failures. trump is more worried about his re-election , and his image than the American people's safety and welfare .

(205,184 posts)Just to see how many - if any - of Trump's transition team were still around. We know that he changes his minions like most people change socks and most of his "acting" members haven't lasted long. Who knew that we'd actually prefer Jeff Sessions!
