(64,852 posts)...that's what I am. Not most days because I sub mostly science & math, and I have advanced degrees in both. So I can actually help there.
But, some days, I'm doing little but babysitting kids too old to need a babysitter.
I don't need the $ I make doing this, and I those days I do think, "They aren't paying me enough for this"
Now, take a real teacher & multiply that by 10!

(51,567 posts)I was a sub for two years and a classroom teacher over 15 . I multiplied the number of kids I had in my class by the average hoirly pay of Day Care and of hireing a babysitter. I would have made 4 times more if I were in either of those professions. This is my post from last night after I read McGrath's tweet.....
Parents are quickly learning how much work teachers do...

I taught 1st grade I know that teachers go home and take naps, then do hours of our own homework, often while sick too. We are NOT glorified babysitters.

(19,833 posts)I ever had. At work, you can take a coffee break, go chat with a co worker, walk the hallways, etc. At home with young kids, you can never take a break. You have to mentally be on it the entire time.
I have the UTMOST respect for stay at home parents!
