Sorry, couldn't resist.

5.7 is pretty strong, especially for a place not used to tremors. SoCal would shrug off something less than 6.0 most days, but I'm not sure how good the building codes are in SLC for earthquake prep.

yet not only did we feel it here but some of our oldest masonary buildings (like City Hall) experienced damage from it (it radiated up the east coast due to how the underlying rock is continuous up the coast). My old building (which was sitting over an area near a river) was swaying. We saw what that did to the Washington Monument too...

In this case, I did a quick search and see there is a fault there. We hear so much about the California faults that we rarely hear about others...





I remember always being taught that "the west coast is (geologically) always moving and growing" and "the east coast is (geologically) old and worn".
