Especially this last sentence, "Helping someone through difficulty is where civilization begins, said Mead."

Been fattening the person up for a BBQ... you know, have a few friends over for maybe some fruit from a mammoth stomach and a nice rub on the meat.

as someone who has broken bones several times in my life, it is especially comforting!

One time I broke my ankle after having had surgery on my arm a short time before. Since the arm surgery was an obstacle to using crutches, I was in a wheelchair for several months until I could recover. I also lived in an upstairs apartment which meant, I could not easily go anywhere. So my mom, who lived about 1000 miles away from here, invited me to live with her until I was better. Even though she also had a job at the time, I greatly appreciated her helping me.

I have seen many animals in exoskeletons missing whole limbs and survive.

I'll double down....Some lizards and salamanders can regrow limbs altogether.

Nature finds a way.
