General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFOX viewers are reporting severe cases of whiplash.
Just last week, they turned on their favorite channel to hear Hannity, Pirro, Dobbs, Tucker, Ingraham, et al explain how this coronavirus was nothing but a "hoax". It was just like the Mueller investigation and the Ukraine hoax. It was all intended to tear down Dear Leader.
Then they wake up and turn on the FOX Morning crowd and they discover that the virus is very real and Dear Leader has been fighting it all along. He knew before anyone that it was a "pandemic". They had to double-check to make sure they were on the right channel?
Yep! Yesterday, they were happy and secure. Today, they might die from a novel coronavirus. Dear Leader must have been trying to protect them. But, it must be true? Even Hannity is saying everything Dear Leader is saying. What happened while they were sleeping?
Maybe they should see the Doctor with this awful crick in the neck? It feels like a car-wreck.

Like the movie Independence Day, when the president asks the alien, what do you want us to do?
Die!

(13,538 posts)hills all at once and right as confirmed cases were increasing rapidly. We'd have seen a lot of the same anyway, but some would have been more spread out if they were being told the truth. A lot of people stocked up over two weeks or more ago.

(1,977 posts)I didn't buy tons of things each trip but every few days I went and bought a little bit more ramping up my provisions. I am mostly where I want to be for a good 2 month supply. But there are still things that I will get for the normalcy items. For those I go to the store late night when there is nobody else there, I wear gloves and wash hands and face as soon as I can. My public interface is pretty low.
I feel if everyone would have followed htese tactics we could have had people supplied better

(564 posts)Probably went something like this... "Hey Joey, WTF are you doing over there? You're squeezing my balls! Somebody might get hit by a bus or something!" "No worries Boss! We'll fix this ASAP! Just playing it up for Big Daddy. We're on it. How's Bev and the kids doing? "Click." - "Oh, shit, the Boss is mad!" Hannity? "You tell moron to quit calling before the show or you'll be sitting in Rush Limbaugh's desk soon enough!"

(15,805 posts)how serious this virus was. They read the real news, they knew it was coming and it was going to be bad. But they are under no illusions that they have any obligation to report the truth and inform their viewers. It's criminal the way they misinformed tens of thousands of Americans and lead them to believe their was no risk.
I have no doubt that Faux viewers have died because they did not know the risks and put themselves and their families in jeopardy due to the false information and WH propaganda broadcast by Faux celebrity hosts. More people will die until the new messaging takes hold, assuming their viewers will not dismiss the sudden switch as part if some dastardly plot cooked up by the Democrats.
It's classic Darwinism.

(4,473 posts)Until 23 August 1939, the party line was "Hitler is our enemy". Then, when the MolotovRibbentrop Pact was signed, the party line became "Hitler is our friend, and always has been our friend". Then, on 22 June 1941, when Hitler invaded the USSR, the party line became "Hitler is our enemy and always has been our enemy."

(11,725 posts)Fox viewers are not suffering any whiplash. They simply accept that as of today, Trump has always known about the pandemic, before anyone else, that he is doing everything to fight it despite Obama giving him an obsolete system. They also accept without question that despite Trump knowing it was a pandemic before the WHO knew it was a pandemic, that it just snuck up on us.
You assume that Fox viewers are critical thinkers that notice contradictory information. They are not.

(11,725 posts)Cognitive Dissonance is simply the tension that occurs when people are holding onto thoughts/beliefs that run contrary to their self image. We all get it. The healthy way to deal with it is to examine oneself and choose actions/thoughts/beliefs that are in line with how we see ourselves. There are also defense mechanisms which help people to diminish the tension while continuing to hold those seemingly contrary beliefs. We see them A LOT in conservatives/authoritarians. Projection is one, Denial, Avoidance, etc...
We all use those defenses to a certain degree, but right wingers use them constantly.
