Stores designate shopping time for seniors, vulnerable amid coronavirus: Safeway, Whole Foods, Targe

Some retailers are setting aside time for their most vulnerable customers to shop.

Acknowledging that older adults and persons with underlying health conditions are more susceptible to COVID-19, or the coronavirus, a growing number of stores are dedicating time or opening earlier for senior shoppers and other at-risk groups.

Because of panic shopping, which has left store shelves empty, at-risk groups including seniors have had difficulty getting supplies.

Albertsons, which has 2,200-plus stores under banners including Safeway, Acme and Vons, says it is reserving two hours every Tuesday and Thursday morning for vulnerable shoppers, including senior citizens, pregnant women or those with compromised immune systems "who have been advised to avoid leaving home as much as possible."

Starting Wednesday, all Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. and Canada will let customers who are 60 and older shop one hour before opening to the public. The company, which is owned by Amazon, has approximately 500 stores throughout the U.K., Canada, and in 42 U.S. states.

I was exhausted after that and and can’t imagine being elderly and doing that. An elderly woman in line behind said she went the day before and the lines were out the door. Yesterday there was one person in line ahead of me.

That said, every cashier I encountered I thanked them and said to hang in there.

until they are able to restock, forget about it. Just got back from Albertson's,were I had three Orders to fill for our Neighbors. Whom are high risk folks. What a bust that was,no fresh meat until tomorrow, and that will be severally limited to what is available in the Warehouse as of this evening. Dry Groceries will only be what is also in inventory as of 7 pm. That is when Albertson Warehouse starts the order pick for Las Vegas stores.

Our Regular Grocery as per my Phone call to the Manager was totally out of everything we had on four Lists. Their deliveries are also limited do to panic buying.

Should be expected, between a 100k and 200k were directly effected by the Casino and School shut downs.
