If the BAy Area has mandatory shelter-in-place in effect, HOW are SFO and Oakland International even OPEN???
Why haven't governors in certain states shut down the airports? Or is it a Fed thing?

(2,336 posts)Things are shipped via plane. You can shut down commercial airlines but the freight industry better keep flying or we'll be out of more than just TP

(13,355 posts)When do you think they will stop flying people?
I am stunned that it hasn't happened on some level yet...except for the EU?
People should be thinking ahead and trying to get home I think

(1,493 posts)I for my own personal sake, hopefully a little later. My college-age daughter is still on the East coast and is scheduled to fly home to Oregon on Saturday. She's been out hiking in the Smoky Mountains all week and the students are driving back to the Boston area, starting tomorrow.

(1,493 posts)I don't know exactly where her friend lives in the Boston area. I hope that her friend's parents/family members have been practicing social distancing. They will be driving her to the airport. I hope the airport isn't too busy. We purchased a premium seat for her on the plane thinking that there would less exposure in the bathroom and maybe a bit more space around her. Crossing fingers big time.
I wish I could get her on a plane today, but the students are in the south and are driving their way back...she estimates it as a 2-day drive (they will stop tomorrow night at a friend's house).
