My spouse works in a public-facing position in a, sort-of, medically related field. The company has offices in several states. We are grateful that work is even available but the parent company just pulled a stunt that I think is wrong and dangerous. They are laying off the entire staff at several locations. They are requiring those who remain to operate their normal location and the locations where the layoffs occurred on alternate days. So half the employees shoulder all of this risks and they are required to move between locations that are several miles apart and get, literally, in peoples faces. This seems unfair, wrong and downright dangerous. Not just for my spouse but for everyone involved. I need some advice on how to proceed with this. My instinct is to contact the media (I know some local talent) and blow this story up but that carries the risk of having the whole business shut down and retaliation. Im stuck here.
really stuck.
If this is unintelligible please forgive me. I dont write well when Im overly emotional.

(10,039 posts)I don't want to be to transparent here to avoid discovery. Thank you for the kind words but I'm seriously more concerned about adding to the spread of this thing by moving about the population center and the other employees who are young and don't know any better.

Not saying what they are doing is the best way for the organization or employees. In a normal world, I like organizations that truly have not other choice, cutting the hours they are open and keeping all employees on at reduced hours. But, not enough info as to what is going on here.
In any event, I hope things work out health wise and financially for you and your spouse.

(14,489 posts)I don't know what our laws say about intentionally placing employees in unnecessary harm's way but what you've described seems to fit that description.
In the industries I retired from, OSHA and commercial insurance companies saw to it that we were not forced to incur unnecessary risks in executing our work.
We wish you and your family the best of luck. We're all going to need it......

(20,868 posts)They have patients in the hospitals.
Some have COV others do not.
These two groups must be isolated from one another so the patients and the hospital workers are not contaminated. The hospital workers are going from one group to the other other, thus possibly spreading the virus, aka "cross-contamination".
This is a crisis!
The situation you are is of similar concern.
If you have *contacts*, it may be worth rattling a few cages.
If not, I think I'd not want my spouse to be working in such a high risk situation!
I wish you the best of luck and please stay well!
